Then we're was his raise.Franklin was never coming here. He wanted a bigger salary, so he could go back to Penn State and demand more money from them. That's all there is to it.
Coaches at this level aren't going to quibble over the money for a job they want. Franklin has said Penn State is his dream job before. He was never leaving. Just wanted a raise.
We went bargain hunting with Dooley and Butch. After they annihilated the program, we were talking to some pretty big time players. But, after the Schiano mess, we fire the AD, hire Fulmer, and Fulmer hires Pruitt quickly, to bring some stability. Now, the program is such a mess, that no one wants the job. Unless you count Hugh Freeze and Lane Kiffen. But, The University will never hire either of them.
Josh Heupel is going to be the HFC for at least 6 years. Period.
Those fans are clueless and spoiled. They think going 13-0 / 12 -1 is a normal thing for teams every year
James Franklin went 4-5 last year and people on here are still ready to crown him lolThat's what I'm hoping.
The whole "regression" story is a bit silly, because it's an impossible standard to expect someone to maintain 13-0 at a G5 school. And G5 schools tend to be more suspectible to huge fluctuations in performance based on level of experience of the players. Not that unusual for a great G5 coach to have a 12-1 year followed by a 5-7 year, then followed by a 10-3 year. So the fact that Heupel went 6-4 the past year isn't necessarily a huge issue (especially considering how close most of his losses were).
But we still have no clue how his results at UCF translate to the SEC. Reasons to be optimistic, but also a lot of unknowns.
We just need to stop thinking in terms of "How do we beat Bama". Not gonna happen for another decade. As a matter of fact, I wouldnt be surprised if Bama drops us, as a yearly rivalry. That's what I'm hoping.

JH needs to bring in a solid DC for sure. We all know he has a good mind for offense. I have my doubts he Will be able To land top 12 classes nationally and top six in the SEC unless he hires some absolute beasts on the recruiting trail. Hopefully he can get it done. That's not the most encouraging thing I've read.
Heupel has a better track record than Pruitt, Dooley, Kiffin, and even Butch Jones before being hired, but he's still an unknown quantity to some extent. Hope this isn't true.
My biggest concern is his defenses. Seems like the typical Air Raid offense that scores a bunch of points, but D struggles. He's going to have to have a functional D to win in the SEC. He's also going to have to recruit at a very high level. You can't get #20 ranked classes and win the SEC.
The money wasn't the deciding factor. We'd gone high enough to make him one of the top 5 highest paid men in college football (he's not even in the top 10 right now). He knew it was enough. He just wasn't ready to put himself in a position to fail early on, given sanctions ahead, when he's already in a good place at a Power 5 program that he has more than once called his dream job. I mean, the man grew up two hours from Happy Valley. That's where his clan is, his heart is. Of course he wasn't going to leave for a massive rebuild job 500 miles and 5 states away.He turned us down because we wouldn't come up with the money. Boosters didn't want to write the check.
That would be true of ANY coach that comes to UT from outside of the SEC. I don't think it is fair to say he regressed when a lot of his key players opted out of this past season. I do believe we will score a lot more points than we have in the past. I just pray he sees the need for a strong defense in the SEC.That's what I'm hoping.
