UCF expert weighs in on Heupel

No link. I just know boosters wouldn't turn loose of the money to hire Franklin. Plus if you look at our history of hiring coaches we have always went bargain hunting.

Sigh... this has been proven wrong many times. You have no proof of your claims here. The rumor is TN offered Franklin $8M with a rolling contract.. IF true, that is one of the best contracts that has been offered in the history of college football. Which would contradict your claims here. You're just looking for something to complain about and you're not even using facts to do so. Just hearsay.

JH needs to bring in a solid DC for sure. We all know he has a good mind for offense. I have my doubts he Will be able To land top 12 classes nationally and top six in the SEC unless he hires some absolute beasts on the recruiting trail. Hopefully he can get it done.

Well.. he lands the 6th class in the sec and we are the 6th best team in the SEC under him that is an improvement on our current standing.. it'd be a start.

Better chance than a DC being hired and needing to place a decent OC...but then interfering. Many of us, myself included, bashed Tyson Helton...there’s a story there.

Pruitt would randomly take over offenisve play calling duties during the games... Helton was a wise man for getting out of dodge so quickly. He knew Pruitt was a walking disaster.

It’s not an attractive situation to choose to be a part of.

I turn down business all the time because I don't care for the customers but in times when they have few to no options big money can motivate me to take that business. I don't think this University wants to pay more than about 4 million bucks a year and so our ceiling on coaching hires is limited to taking risks on guys like Pruitt and Heupel. Guaranteed the right money would motivate any one of the big names that spurned us this time.

This... My concern is the narcissism is too high in Knoxville for this to become a reality. Maybe those involved will realize that since they fired and HOF coach they have floundered on every hire not just because of who they hired but because of how they treated their hires. Way too much meddling from people that frankly have never done it. Too many people hired who have never done it. Yet we set these high expectations on them.

These two have done well, but not in a power 5. The things mentioned in this article have already been done at Tennessee. We simply need the right hire. Sure he hired Frost, but Frost has not panned out at Nebraska.

Regardless, both are very intelligent and likeable guys from what I can see. I believe both are very capable IF we can get the right defensive minds and strength and conditioning program to Tennessee. This along with creating a supportive environment for them to succeed in are essential. I am not saying that anyone needs to drink koolaid, but clearly too many people drink the lake water there and it has made them poisonous.

Stop doing that. Drive your boats in it. Float in it. Relax and stay out of their affairs. Let these guys do there thing. If they don’t work out, then at least we didn’t pay someone like Huepel 7 million. The six year contract is a bit much IMO though. Here is the best quote I have come across about Tennessee football in a long time. I think it has been stuck in reverse, but whatever...

“Tennessee has been stuck in neutral, still pining for the days of 1998. The entire athletic department needs a violent shove into the 21st Century, and Danny White can do that, as long as fans are willing to go along with him whole-hog. Some sacred cows may have to be slaughtered. That’s OK — It will work out if you let Danny be Danny.

Everyone is right because both of these statements are true:
1- He turned us down
2 - Boosters didn’t want to pay him what he was asking.

He was asking for an amount that would basically make him the highest paid coach in all of sports. So when we said we don’t want to pay THAT much, he turned us down.

I don't believe that rumor, the one about Franklin asking for $10M/year. I've seen it. Just don't believe it has any basis in reality.

No more than I believe the rumor that started several days ago saying Steele left the program. Now that rumor is being walked back because it's clear he didn't actually leave yet, and might not leave at all. Just an internet rumor.

This one about Franklin and $10M is equally made-up, I think.

Price wasn’t too high...he turned us down.
Basilio reported Franklin wanted 9 years $90 million guaranteed. If we hired him, folks would be pissed if he didn’t get us to 10 wins by year 3.

Worst case, we emerge from probation in a few years and can reassess. The job will be more attractive, and Chadwell will be more proven. Or Kiffin will be viewed as lower risk.

That's not the most encouraging thing I've read.

Heupel has a better track record than Pruitt, Dooley, Kiffin, and even Butch Jones before being hired, but he's still an unknown quantity to some extent. Hope this isn't true.

My biggest concern is his defenses. Seems like the typical Air Raid offense that scores a bunch of points, but D struggles. He's going to have to have a functional D to win in the SEC. He's also going to have to recruit at a very high level. You can't get #20 ranked classes and win the SEC.
Doesn't really matter at this point. Apparently, no one else wanted the job so White went with what he knew and made a comfort hire. So it's done. Just have to hope for the best and enjoy what success does come our way....at least until the NCAA finally gets around to our case. I'm guessing it will be around year 3 of White's tenure. Because of the probation, some little known contract clause will kick in and auto renew him 2 years at a time until the probationary period ends. We wanted the next coach to be a 10 year guy...well..

I’d have offered Matt Campbell $8 mill before I offered Franklin a dollar.

All I know is that UCF players and fans seem totally fine with Heupel leaving, similar to when Butch left Cincy. Except this has left them without a coach and an AD in freaking January and they seem fine with it. That is most telling if you ask me.

There reaction was negative because they found out on twitter and not at a team meeting. Maybe I’m not seeing it but there are not a lot of “glad he’s gone” statements if any.

The 8-9 million offer to Franklin is more than the "right" money IMO. What is the right money in your opinion?
