There is one thing that the candidates who have publicly "turned down" Tennessee have in common.....they are both attention whores who need to be loved and adored. I would imagine that Franklin had no real intention of coming to Tennessee, but just wanted to be wanted after a rough year at PSU.

He is this year's Mike Gundy.

But you said pruitt wasn't getting fired so your not really dependable on information.

The only reason is to "reset" his clock. 10 years is about the max for most coaches at one stop unless you are elite like Saban, Franklin is going into his 8th and starting to feel a little bit of pressure.

Imagine thinking it's a good idea to hire a new coach that has:
  1. Never been a head coach, and
  2. Had two of the greatest QBs in college football history (great players around them, too), and
  3. Been the sole offensive coordinator for two years
All while soon to be navigating a program through NCAA sanctions.

This is going to be great.

I will say this, even if Franklin was target #1 and he turns us down. I appreciate that DW is making the #1 target say no before moving on.

Last search it seemed like we were bouncing from candidate to candidate within hours. Soon as we got any sort of push back (on our likely lowball offers).
