Here's my take: Boosters had been chasing Franklin for a while, Danny White comes on board thinking he can close the deal - but he has always had Elliott at the top of his personal list.

As for how you get such a huge discrepancy between your top candidate (Franklin) and your second candidate (Elliot)? I think it comes down to the general consensus of the coaching interest being much closer to the second tier, but Franklin saw us as a mark and used us for a raise.

The euphoria of a Tennessee coaching search is nearing its end. This is the point of highest hope before reality closes in. Enjoy these last few fleeting moments. We hoped for a choice cut filet from Pampas, but we’re getting a hotdog from that street vendor with the weird hand.

2017 they had 14 signees total. (2) 5*, (8) 4*.

We had 28 signees. (1) 5*, (4) 4*, (23) 3*.

LOL the classes may have been close in rankings a few of those years, but they are absolutely not close in quality.

We also don't develop players like them. They have guys like Renfrow and Nolan Turner that become big time players that weren't even rated coming out of high school. They won a national title with a guy from Maryville at C that we didn't even offer. They're just better at this than we are right now.
