The only comparable one would be texas AM pulling Jimbo from FSU. I know Jimbo has a title but if James Franklin had a QB like Jameis it’s hard to imagine he wouldn’t at least have a playoff appearance.

They started bad, closed really well. Unlike with our head coach, it's reasonable to assume that virus took a toll because they got better in the 2nd half of the year instead of worse.

Another good post. Their season actually warrants the covid excuse. Start poorly, get better as the year goes on. It’s funny how the actual good coaches like Franklin and Fleck for example.....had their teams playing better the more they were able to play and practice.

I have many of the same sentiments about Franklin as @Ulysees E. McGill has stated. However, I can’t simply ignore the fact that PSU, home of one of the worst sexual abuse crimes we’ve ever known (along with what happened at Vandy...and make no mistake, there is no one here that thinks either of those were anything less than abhorrent and utterly disgusting), they did their homework and felt comfortable hiring the guy. As one poster said yesterday, I’d have to imagine their vetting of him was FBI level scrutiny.

Their whole team opted out basically and their star RB had a season ending injury. Their version of Hank T opted out, expect their version is much better and is about to be a top 7 NFL draft pick.

Franklin is not my first choice, as he was unbearable as Vandy's HC (mainly because he kept kicking our hind end) and the whole rape investigation thing (of which he's been cleared of any wrongdoing). That being said, he can coach the **** out of a football team. He won at Vandy with less talent than he'd be able to get at UT. Hard to believe he would not succeed at Tennessee given our resources. He's a great hire, and probably exactly what we need. I can see why DW had him as the frontrunner on his list. Flame away, I just can't say this is a bad or immoral hire.

Anyone on here who has ever coached or taught at either the College or High School level knows that ANY student or ANY (esp. disgruntled) player can accuse you of anything at anytime and you will be Guilty even if proven Innocent. Some of you are sensitive to sexual assault and rightly so. Some of US are sensitive to having to defend crap or react perfectly to everything that happens knowing you won't be believed. I've seen too many good men ruined.
