Tony Elliott Appears To Be a Target

Give Frost the resources he would have at UT and the recruiting landscape in the South and he would do well here I think better than he is at Nebraska it’s a graveyard there now for recruiting. I know though that’s his alma mater and he wants to get it turnaround there and they will probably give him 5 or 6 seasons to try and do it.
Again we are just getting in a guessing game. I trust White to make the best decision based on the options available to him. VN members have a zero track record in hiring coaches or building/reinventing a football program.

The negativity in this thread is why coaches do not want to come to Tennessee. People need to think of the possibilities instead of their prejudices. White has been a great judge of talent and character everywhere he has been. Not like Fulmer. If Elliott can piece together a team of Tee, Graham, Steele, and Garner I think we could become an elite recruiting staff to get this program back on the road quickly. He might also bring some of Dabo's staff thus destroying Clemson's stronghold on recruiting.

I trust White to make the best decision for our program. This could be an outstanding staff.
I agree with most of your post and this is just my opinion. I think Tee's value and coaching prowess has been vastly overrated. There is no doubt he is great ambassador for the University, but as a position coach he just appears to me to be lacking. Just my opinion though.

Elliott would be an AWESOME HIRE!

we’re gonna have some ROUGH years ahead...
no matter the coach...
no one with a brain (kiffin) wants to come to this dumpster fire
why would you when you got a nice thing going

why not take someone squeaky clean
who can recruit
who can take those losses like a man,
and they’ll plenty of those
and if the offensive schemes are so awesome,
then we’ll see it, unlike with pruit,
we may just have a gem on our hands.

and if he does flame out... in three years we’ll be talking about his replacement
with sanctions and 3-9 seasons long behind us...
and then we can hire kiffin, who by then will openly want a way out of ole miss

i like this guy or the buffalo guy, a proven winner

Would rather have Elliott than Bob Stoops. Need a hungry motivated young coach like our AD. Interesting background with Elliott. Tennessee or any sec program is definitely a tough place to learn on the job. Don’t revolt at least until the magical “Year Three“ when all the candidates are on the clock to win the SEC East and sweep Georgia and Florida.
I'd rather have Stoops than Just about anyone not named Saban, Dabo, or Urban, but I don't think there is any chance we can get him. For where Vols are right now as program, Elliott would be a big hire. With Sark off the board and assuming Venables will never leave Clemson, Elliott is clearly sitting in the cat bird seat as the top coordinator to elevate.

There were times I had thought about the gambling thing also. Especially when you would see strange turn of events in games.
It is sick that it even crossed our minds. Once can happen. Twice is weird. More times than that, time to clean house.
In their defense, coaches looked as stunned as I did at the end of some games.

6-6 and 8-4 and I would be happy with that
From 3-7 to 6-6, from a group that will be decimated by outflow, has no HC, staff unknown, QB a total crap shoot, base scheme versus personnel capability unknown and NCAA/self-imposed sanctions unknown, yeah, guess I'd be happy. LOL.

For those who say Elliott only looks good because of Trevor Lawrence, reminder that Clemson scored 33 regulation points on Notre Dame without Lawrence (he missed the regular season meeting in Covid protocol). That’s more than Bama scored on ND in the playoff.

The thing I don’t understand is the complainers that use, “ Tennessee isn’t a place to learn to be a head coach” people. Why isn’t it??? With the state that our roster is in right now, a phenomenal coach wouldn’t take us to the promise land, so why not a great offensive mind, who will be hungry to have success at his first stop. All learning curves should be taken care of by the time our roster is ready to win... everybody had to start somewhere. With the positive things I’ve learned about Elliot over the past few days, why can’t we just have the #indannyitrust mentality.

There is not guaranteed success with any candidate we choose. Not Campbell, Kiffin, Napier, Elliot or even Saban if he came here in an alternate universe.
That’s a fact! ^
It will take a lot of hard work and cohesion from the AD department down to the water boy.
ALL MUST BUY IN %100 to the success of The Tennessee Football program in the right way, no shortcuts.
I personally, never thought Pruitt bought in to Tennessee...........

I'll play -- without sharing names share information about your source. Is he an admin guy, with the Athletic Department, Charlie's cousin, Thunder's janitor, Jimmy's sister in law's hair dresser, Peyton's friend from college's suitmate?

Just a little curious since I thought we have a new AD who is vetting and selecting the new coach. Not sure others outside a tiny tiny circle would have any idea.
You’re probably right and his info could very well be misdirection. It’s a local sports media guy.

This was published prior to the press conference yesterday and it sounded like they hadn’t focused on anyone
Yep have a strong feeling everything is just conjecture at this point. Credit to them keeping a tight lid on things.

Revolt? Geez guys, come on! PLEASE let's not start that crap this time. We're just shooting ourselves in the head. As if things aren't bad enough, that will make it worse. I have to believe some of these posts are opposing fans trying to stir the pot.

This is my take on the learning to be a head coach argument. Kiffen, Dooley, and Jones all came to UT with previous head coaching credentials, Kiffen left in the middle of the night. Dooley and Joes both failed miserably. That tells me the argument doesn't hold water. Pruitt was a shot in the dark that missed and missed badly. The common denominator in all three to me was incompetent leadership at the top.

We've cured that ill and seem to have some extremely level headed folks running the show now. I'm a little more inclined to trust the judgement of the #4 AD in the country in that he has all his ducks in a row and can evaluate the people he wants working for him, after all they are and will be a direct reflection of him. But what do I know, I'm just an HR guy that hires people for a living.

Or fans who are fed up with hiring coordinators with no prior head coaching experience.
