I literally cannot keep up with the posting on this thread so sorry if others have made these points by the time this goes up.
If there is a "smokescreen" candidate out there being used to keep people talking while they chase a whale (and I'm not saying there is), it would have to be Tony Elliott. Too many sources right now pushing Elliott's name, he is a candidate that would seem to be someone we can definitely get if we want him, and he has the prior relationship with White from the UCF search that lazy writers can put together. I cannot figure out whether Elliott has an agent, he didn't when Auburn was searching but the article I saw said he was looking for one. If he has Jimmy Sexton, this has all the signs of a Sexton PR push.
That having been said, we could do a lot worse than Tony Elliott, and if White thinks he's the guy, then I'm on board. Put him with Steele as DC, bring in Rodney Garner and Kevin Simon, Auburn's behind the scenes recruiting coordinator, and keep Tee and Jay on offense, and that is a hell of a staff. Many have prior relationships with Elliot, know the territory for recruiting, and it is stocked with VFL's. How can you not get excited about that?
Campbell is my #1, and I do value HC experience, but if Elliott is our fallback, we are in good shape.
