Thinking about what we would want in the next coach and what that skill set needs to have.
We’re not a rebuild anymore. Dooley destroyed that, butch dug us further, and Pruitt put us on the NCAA radar.
We’re a build... point blank. Sure, we have the resources of a premier football program, but somebody will have to come in here and beat teams who have established high level coaches and better talent... and do it in a way recruits want to come here. That’s going to be really rare. To compete on the talent level, we have to recruit top 5 in the nation. Because 4th or 5th is usually 3rd or 4th in the SEC. our top 15 classes where we’re 8th in the SEC and 4th or 5th in our own division just isn’t good enough. We need a coach who can simply outclass high level coaches in this conference with inferior talent enough to show recruits they would be coming to play for someone and something special.

I don’t really know who that is, or if they even exist. Chances of that happening are insanely slim.

A good HC can get top 10 classes here consistently. A good HC can develop players. Reality is we need to be consistently better than UK, Candy, Ark, Mizzou. Top 10 does that. Do that for a few years, develop. Then steal one from UGA, UF, or Bama.. then you can catapult yourself into top 5's.

It's a process. Check one box at a time. Be consistent and over time you will get there. It's why we need a good coach we can build some stability around. Expecting an SEC title in 3yrs is not reasonable. Beat who we are supposed to beat. Close the gap and have close games with the big 3.

Not getting Campbell for that amount. Think about his side of it. He’s a hero at ISU and can stay for a while. Unless he just falls on his face, they want him. Business wise, he should only take a new challenge if the new school promises him roughly 5 years at 5.5-7.0 million per year. He can take that chance. It’s simple math.
I'm going to sound like an old man here but, who needs that kind of money?!? If you've got to "overpay" to lure a guy to coach your football team, he's probably not the best man for the job. If UT is going to overpay a coach, then I want them to do it for a man that really wants to be here.

*Like I said, $4 to $4.5 mil for Freeze or $2 mil for Chadwell and you're getting your money's worth. IMO

Hero in Ames Iowa. Good grief. Go shuck some corn and build a baseball field so Shoeless Joe Jackson can play Baseball again.

Well let’s make a little bet here Sir. I guarantee you that whoever they back the Loomis(or Brinks) truck up to that individual Coaches us to Atleast a 6 win season in the first year.

I am willing to put $50 on it.
I think we will win at least 6, so I am not making that bet.

You have heard the last coach and AD nuked the place on the way out the door? Overpaying is the only way to get someone decent here (see AD hire). And I am old too.

You are going to have to overpay to get a coach here it’s the reality of the situation. You add in a buyout plus the problems Pruitt has brought via sanctions coaches are going to look out for their bottom line. It’s the business of college athletics.
