You serious?

5 seasons - Butch: 34-27 (.557)
With 2 losing seasons out of 5

4 seasons - Herman: 32-18 (.640)
Never had a losing season
Took Texas to 4 straight bowls....winning all of them.

Try again......his record is nothing like Butch’s at Tennessee.
Also if this was not a short season he has 3 10 win season in a 4 year stint.

Everyone is getting the cart before the horse. First call and first move is hiring an AD. After that I think they'll end up waiting until the NCAA investigation is complete. Trying to hire a coach with that cloud hanging over the program is not good. Looks to me like they're positioned to keep Steele as interim for a while.

I'm calling Mark Stoops to guage his interest.

He seems to get the best out of his athletes. He's at a school which is a nightmare to recruit to when playing schools that recruit way above Kentucky's.

I believe he could right the ship at Tennessee and get us back to a position where we could recruit and compete at a high level again.

We're talking about a specific coach in this thread, not the macro process. And BTW, do you have any idea how long NCCA "Investgations" take?

You know he has an overall losing record at Kentucky.....right.

And he is 24-42 in SEC play.

Tennessee “needs” to get this right......he probably isn’t the guy to right this ship.

I'd offer Matt Campbell whatever he wanted. For some reason he doesn't want to leave Iowa State but if he can turn one of the most pathetic football programs into a regular top 25 team, I'd like to see what he could do with Tennessee's resources. Only 41 years old. He sounds as if he wants to remain in that community but I'd have to think he will move at least once more to a larger program, in which case I think he would be loyal to that program as long as they will have him, unless he made jump to NFL. He is a guy Tennessee could potentially keep for 30 years. I'd make him say no and offer it all.

It would seem Freeze would be contacting us to plead his case...
He could be an exciting hire, but it is a long shot.
Stay tuned...

Yes easily could have had another 10 win this year.

Especially given he wins 2 non conference games per, and has won every bowl game.
The reason I take Herman is because if you look beyond the record at 2 stops which I might say is impressive including Houston. What he has been able to do with his QB is really good. That the one thing that stands out to me is his ability year in and year out to put a very good offense on the field speaks volumes. I am sure it being the SEC he could find a really good DC to run his defense so would be a really good hire.

That what I am thinking to. I say to at least until the end of the 2021 season.

I’d be down.

He is a good coach. He wins, and doesn’t lose “a lot.”

Would be a solid hire
Not sure “now days” he has the most up-side as we have seen what he can do at Texas.....which is way better than most want to give him credit for.

I’d rather have Freeze (Hugh long shot now after firing with cause).....but he has improved 3 programs from year 1.......winning “while” building.

However I would get on board with a Herman hire......he’s a good coach.

How you going to recruit when the kids don’t even know who the coach will be?

With kids dropping out now, and the mess Tennessee will be in.......they cannot afford a “year off” in recruiting.

The first person I'd make say no is Chris Peterson. Do I think its likely we get him or he'd want to come here, no....but I'd hand him the checkbook and tell him to name his price. Only after we gave him the same treatment that Bama gave ol Nicky boy, and he still walk, would I then back the truck up to Liverty U and move Freeze to Knoxville.

Peterson has been who I thought we should have made an offer to that he couldn't resist for a couple coaching searches now. There is no downside with him.

Usually a long time but they're shorter when schools are compliant and it looks like we're rolling over and playing dead. At the very least the university will need to complete their investigation and recommend self imposed penalties. At that point they should have a reasonable idea of what the NCAA investigators will recommend to the committee on infractions and confidently deal with a coaching candidate.

You simply cannot fire a coach for cause with NCAA violations and fire the AD who wanted him and then turn around and hire a guy who was fired for the same thing. It's not happening. That's thing number 1.

Number 2, even if UT offered him the job, with possible big sanctions coming, he's not going to want the job. He will go somewhere where he can have success immediately.

Look for a very safe, unexciting hire. Not a no-name hire like in years past, but not someone who excites you.

Also, the next coach at UT will not be the one to lead UT back to a championship. It will be the one after him.
Thank You !

Your guess is as good as mine. With the investigation and A.D search and then the Head Coach search. I honestly don't have a clue of how they will do it or how long it's going to take. With this whole deal starting on the 13th of November you think they would have at least started put a caution list together for whatever might be happening instead of the way way it's going to be done.

They are going to let Steele be the coach and just be quiet about it. Just wait you'll see

Lol

You told us all for over a month there was NO way Pruitt would be fired.

You said Pruitt WOULD be the head coach next season.

But hey......your “opinion” is real this time.

We waited, we have seen, Pruitt is gone......will Steele be the next coach.....we don’t know, including you.

He very well “could” be the coach for this season. I hope not and I don’t think so....but maybe......but would still be on an interim basis in my opinion.

My opinion about Pruitt was based off of Fulmer. I didn't anticipate Fulmer being shown the door. But hey none of us know anything.

Let’s face it Vowel fans, it’s going to be very difficult to get any coach of substance to come to Tennessee at this point
It’s far too hard to recruit and win at UT anymore, unfortunately

Who knows......however by them bringing in Steele, it “looks” like they at least had a plan this time.

If they did......big if, they probably have a short list of AD choices and will prob interview a few. And they would “probably” have at least 4 HC candidates.....with at least 1 being a guy they “know” would take the job.

We will see......if things roll quickly.......then we know they had a plan.

HC “could” take time depending......because of the NCAA stuff.

Agree

But you did say he would definitely be the coach for 2021.

I was just giving you a hard time about it......your opinion is just as valid as mine or anyone else’s.

I think one guy right now that they could bring in for a interview and hiring him right there would be Jamey Chadwell. He is young at 44years old very good offensive minded coach and I think him being from Tennessee he would have a good understanding of Tennessee and the SEC of how it works.
