He’s right. I’ve gone through it word for word as well. If this were a court of law there is zero chance Trump would be convicted of a crime. You got through the whole thing? I'm impressed.
I could literally feel my IQ dropping after each paragraph.
I'll take your word for it, despite the republican senators and congressman agreeing that his actions rose to the level of impeachment - Trumps inciting the crowd was just another excuse for aDem'sbi-partisan pile on.
That’ll make it easier to round them up for prison.Don't get me wrong. I do see value in forcing GOP members of the House and Senate to formally take a position. They ought to have to go on record and live with the consequences. But weighed against the possible eruption of further rioting and sedition by Trumpsters I question whether its worth it, overall.
Certainly we know that there is a segment of Trumpsters who are considering further violence and attacks on the country. Hopefully law enforcement will be better prepared this time to put them down aggressively. But its still the case that it could cost lives. Again.
They need to do a little research...there were votes casts with guns pointed directly at them many times in the House's history
The precedent is that impeachment is being used as a partisan political tool. Of course that was already set with the 1st impeachment so what the hell, right?Setting an awful precedent? No chance of winning in ‘24?
What precedent does it set to not hold him accountable?
I also think he’d have a great chance of winning in 4 years. There are a ton of people waiting to say “I told you so” about Biden and he seems to have a special relationship with his party.
Thanks! That's a definite add to my reading listRecent and well recieved book on this very subject:
The Field of Blood: Violence in Congress and the Road to Civil War
Book Review: The Field of Blood: Violence in Congress and the Road to the Civil War by Joanne Freeman
That's not the way healing works.I get extremely amused at this line of thinking as that was the main line the Republican reps were using this morning. “This will do nothing to help the healing.” Please. I guess the Democrats should be the bigger people since they now have control and I am hoping they move on after the inauguration. HOWEVER, I find it disingenuous and extremely hypocritical for ANY Republican or Trump to say ANYTHING about “healing and uniting”. You think Trump tried to unite this country? Spare me. Republicans and particularly Trump have done nothing but divide for 4 years now and you know what they say about payback, right? I think Biden will try to heal the divide as things go along but not until the Democrats exact 5 lbs of flesh (not just one) from the Republicans for their antics and especially for the election fraud farce. Just the way it is. Doesn’t matter if anybody likes it or not.
