The writing was on the wall for Pittsburgh since week 11. They were playing terrible and had 1 good half the last 4-5 games of the season. That carried into the post season. There's a reason that division had 3 teams in the playoffs. Every one of them got 4 games against the worst division in the NFL, by far. The Browns played 6 teams with a winning record and 4 of them were in their own division. Titans and Colts are the only 2 that they played with a winning record outside of that. They had to have one of the easiest paths to the playoffs in the NFL this year. The Brown’s (Haslam’s team) are stomping the living crap out of Pittsburgh. No question, they have front officed this team from the depths of the sewer to legitimacy.
Looking back, There is little doubt in my mind that Schiano would have been an immensely better choice than Pruitt. Not saying he would have been a great hire, but I think the powers that be may have known we weren’t going to get any better.
I preferred our older, more primitive (and larger) set-up. And fancying things up haven't helped performance.I’ve never understood the Haslam hate. If it weren’t for them, and their donations, we wouldn’t have anywhere near the facilities we do. And I’ve only met Jimmy a couple times (never met Bill), but Big Jim Haslam is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
And yet, people on here slam them constantly. Just don’t get it.
71-73 isn’t winning. He’s a loser. Loser at Rutgers. Loser in NFL. All his players hated him. And that’s without the kid rape scandalHe was winning at Rutgers. I even posted his stats for his last seven years.
Win the SEC? Dude, we suck monkey balls and you are talking about winning the SEC? We aren’t comparing Schiano to Saban. I’m comparing him to Pruitt, because like it or not, that’s who we got after one of the most absurd and embarrassing coaching searches in the history of college football.
This is the level of delusion we are dealing with. I’m saying we’d be better off right now if Schiano had been hired. Period. Get it?
I didn’t say he was a great coach. He’s a better coach than Beldar Skoalcan.Still no to Schiano. If he was a great coach why was he not hired at OSU? No thanks.
That’s because of his first 2 years. Contrast that with his last 7 years. Rutgers was a perennial 3 win team. They were 14-64 from 1996-2002. You’ve basically said context doesn’t matter.71-73 isn’t winning. He’s a loser. Loser at Rutgers. Loser in NFL. All his players hated him. And that’s without the kid rape scandal
I literally covered a number of other coaching prospects in the post. Can you not read? That implies the only options were either Schiano or Pruitt. Clearly that wasn't the case. Hell, even Mike Leach was offered the position and was going to take it before rescinding the offer. And that ignores the fact that there were literally countless other candidates that were available to be hired.
So you like strawmen? Got it. UT didn’t just interview two people and I said as much.I can read perfectly. Apparently you simply can't or won't comprehend. Even if we only interviewed 2 people, that doesn't mean we only had 2 options.
They all knew.....if something like that was happening at a job with that many people intertwined in a locker room setting it would be impossible. There would’ve been rumors galore at the least and it would progress. Why in the hell would you even risk that hire????Honest question, can I get an honest answer, do you really think that Schiano didn’t know anything about the Sandusky sexual assaults? Do you think Paterno did?
Big Jim is a crook and is NOT nice. See how he treats his underlings sometimes. He’s a huge p****
My earlier post will answer that. On this board rt now our fans hate everyone from Majors, Fulmer, Tee Martin, Freeze, Malzhan, Coastal Coach , and others I forgot. The fans at Tennessee just hate everyone. Their is no single person left they don’t hate! It’s really quite sad!
I didn’t say he was a great coach. He’s a better coach than Beldar Skoalcan.
I wouldnt measure the UT and OSU jobs on anywhere near the same level. I think this belays my point. UT fans have no concept of reality as to the state of the program and who will take this job.
I’m not sure why this is so hard for some of you to get.
Better off now with Pruitt or Schiano? I say Schiano and I’ve not heard one argument to the contrary.
So you like strawmen? Got it. UT didn’t just interview two people and I said as much.
I plainly stated they looked at other options. They’re top two were Mullen and Kelly who both said no and took other jobs that same week. I pointed out that Schiano was a “in the bag” back up plan to avoid a drawn out search. If you recall they had a pretty messy search before they hired Jones. So, they settled on Schiano only after making overtures on other coaches that took other jobs.
So only some years matter gotchaThat’s because of his first 2 years. Contrast that with his last 7 years. Rutgers was a perennial 3 win team. They were 14-64 from 1996-2002. You’ve basically said context doesn’t matter.
We count Barnes first two years don’t we?So only some years matter gotchathe guy was rivaled by Butch Jones and had ONe decent season where he had a NFL RB and weak schedule and still didn’t do anything of note
Yes, Pruitt is such a media darling.I felt the hire of Pruitt in Dec 2017 was better than the potential hire of Schiano, all things considered. Three years later, it’s debatable, but I still prefer Pruitt. That doesn’t mean I’m happy with Pruitt now.
Pruitt is 10-16 in the SEC while rebuilding. He followed a coach that had run the team in the gutter with an 0-8 SEC record, and left very little upperclassmen talent.
I doubt Schiano would have done better here in W/L. Fortunately we’ll never know. We do know he would have brought the baggage here from PSU. Maybe unwarranted, but baggage nevertheless. Plus, he has a reputation as a prick. Don’t think that would have played well at UT, or on the recruiting trail in the dog-eat-dog SEC. Pass.
One season in 12 years he went 11-2 against a cream puff schedule? So what? The other 11 seasons he lost between 4-11 games against the same weak schedulesWe count Barnes first two years don’t we?
Don’t be an idiot. It’s Rutgers. Schiano’s first two years greatly set him back in record because he took over a team that was wretched. He had them to 11 wins in 06. And a very respectable record over his final seven seasons.
I only asked the question to reiterate why there was uproar over the hire. The Sandusky atrocity was still somewhat fresh.
