Pruitt was a bridge hire. Bring him in, give him what he needs and, at least, he'll stabilize the program and build a roster for the next guy, they thought. Repeating a failed strategy probably isn't the way to go.

We don't need bridge hires. We need get it done guys.

Marrone’s resume screams bridge hire, nothing about Pruitt’s reputation or resume suggested bridge hire. Another bonehead move by the people running our program.

Joe Brady must be a savant. Dude is about to go from Offensive Assistant for the Saints to NFL Head Coach in 3 years. I would pay big money to just sit and have a few beers with him and talk football or just have him breakdown film for me.

I hope they seriously give Jeff Fisher a look if they decide to part ways with Pruitt. He's had success at the highest level and he seems like a great person and teacher to boot. I bet he would attract a top notch staff.
I agree. and again, this is a guy who would be that stabilizing presence. He knows how to be a CEO. I bet he would recruit just fine, especially with the NFL background and that we are TN. Could really work.

I agree, but that isn't whats going to happen at this point. The next poor future hated ex-coach schlub isn't even going to be a bridge...he is going to be a downward ramp.

They have made a good outcome almost impossible.

Nothing about this has been ideal. We're coming up on a fork in the road. Buckle up.

" So son I hear your a dual threat quarterback? I had a real good one . Have you ever heard of Air Mcnair?"

Exactly. Think about Salter or Simpson playing like McNair. We would definitely have a competent QB Coach and I think he would hire a good OC. The guy's had 4 years off to study how the game has evolved and a lot of that came from college concepts.

I have talked myself into him being the #1 realistic choice (we aren't hiring Freeze). Would bring immediate stability and appeal to recruits....they all want to get to the NFL and he played in the NFL and coaches there for 22 years. And he wants to be here!

He knows our potential from his time in Nashville while we were an elite program. He could have made comments about wanting any of the jobs that did or may become available....his comments were specifically about UT. Apparently, we are not as unattractive as we think. Offer him 4--5 million a year and give him 4-5 for a staff and let him stabilize us.

I promise you he is a better coach than Kirby and anyone else in the East except for possibly Mullen's QB coaching.

I don't agree with this at all.

Pruitt was a high risk hire. Zero people on this board saw him as some stabilizing figure.

How can someone who's never been a head coach be a stabilizing figure?

Lane leaving caused a ripple effect of disfunction when it happened. He was a splash hire that Hamilton screwed up. Yes a better hire could have been made but it created a “something must be wrong” mentality about the program around the country.

Mediocrity happens when leadership is off. There has been a power struggle going on within the university for years. It was stymied while Fulmer was winning. As soon as it happened, the struggle began. It seems there are too many factions and I think Fulmer being AD there makes them worse. It’s time for him to ride off into the sunset. We need someone that can unite everyone to be on the same page in that role. It is too bad Pat isn’t around to be in that role. I think it needs to be a former player. Peyton would be ideal but that won’t happen.

I think a Kevin Mayes, Dane Bradshaw or Josh Dobbs in the future would be great in that role. It needs to be someone that everyone loves and has the intellect and personality to bring unity.

Charles Davis is the answer.

If we keep waiting it will be harder and harder to to attract someone of a high caliber. I think Fisher is someone who can unite everyone in the football program. He is an adult and people respect him. Tennessee parents would instantly be attracted to him bc they were watching when they went on that run. He’d have NFL players in his corner. He is a face that would bring credibility to the program.

My guess is he’d try to bring in Steve Watterson as S&C and many of those he coached with in the pro’s. If he is the floor you can’t go wrong. He has openly said he would take it and you will get his best because he is pissed he wants to prove everyone wrong. He has connections to Cali having coached with the Rams and playing at USC. He will be above average at the worst and get us going back in the right direction.

Bring him on.

Well, this board doesn't make decisions for UT.

Plenty of first-time HCs stabilize programs-- just not the one we hired. Like many, I thought Pruitt was a red-flag hire, but the thinking was he would grow into the role with guidance.
