0) Notes that Pruitt's status was an open secret since we backed out of the Liberty Bowl and we weren't hiring replacements, not surprising.
1) Tennessee is engaging in a David Beaty-esque situation, because we straight up do not have the cash to afford the full buyout.
2) Suggests that Tennessee raises our hands and say "we have done bad" to get ahead of the NCAA investigation that would come with pulling a David Beaty.
3) The value of the Tennessee job will be clearer after the investigation (long, long-winded response to this question so I summed it up.)
4) Steven/Host wants Gus but the caller suggests it could only work if Gus could bring an Auburn level staff, but notes that Gus would only come with some serious cash/competition incentives.
5) Comes back to the David Beaty situation, really makes note this investigation, and our handling of it, could seriously cost us with candidates like Napier, Campbell and more.
6) Rambles about Vandy, but notes that Clark Lea is making sure Nashville is a priority (not good for Tennessee bc Nashville really is booming and a future hot spot of recruiting IMO)

My big takeaway? I think we're underselling how serious the investigation & David Beaty-esque situation we are in. To me it seems like Freeze would be the first & possibly only person to take this job even with the issues we're facing.

Pruitt put out a public statement on Hooker.

"We look forward to Hendon joining the Tennessee football family this semester," Pruitt said in the release. "Hendon is a very talented and dynamic quarterback with multiple years of Power Five experience. He will be a great addition to our quarterback room and make a positive impact with two years of eligibility remaining."
I thought he had three years counting the extra year granted for every player.

So instead of doing what is best for the program we still have people only wanting the program to be good if they get the credit? We basically have those wanting to keep Pruitt and Fulmer, and they will just blame Covid and the slip up by a player? We have another side that lost some power the last go around doing whatever to get rid of those 2 so they can pick who they want, and they will just blame Pruitt and Fulmer for the bad team, bad handling of Covid and the investigation? Probably pushed the investigation without caring what recruits we lost or the embarrassment as long as they get their way? If I were a coach I would get out as quickly as possible and tell every other coach not to go to Tennessee.Someone tell me why I even care anymore?
This is it exactly. We keep failing despite new admins, ADs, chancellors, presidents, and coaches because our power players are more interested in their own personal version of game of thrones than building and maintaining a championship program. We are in the exact situation Bama was in prior to Saban with boosters and legacy's like Bear’s son all fighting for control and credit and in the process driving their program into the ground. Bama’s boosters finally got sick of losing and surrendered an ungodly amount of control and money to land Saban. If you haven’t read the SDS article on it you should because in order for us to succeed we have to get our power players to go from having a figurehead AD to one with real power and that AD has to have power to give away to the right coach. Our culture is absolutely toxic but it’s not the team or the fans but how our system functions and how the various players operate within it.

I apologize if this question has been asked before but I’m not familiar with the David Beaty reference?

This has been the plan all along. It’s why they delayed moving and I would bet the farm withheld support for a new hire unless it was linked to firing Fulmer. Meanwhile we’re bad mouthing the only guy who ever did anything for us and reading it from a script handed to us by the very men who got us into this mess. And not one direct quote from Fulmer to support any of it.
A few short years ago, people were hating on Haslam for running UT football into the ground. Today some are begging Haslam to free us from this mess. It's a very confusing time to be a Vol fan. I blame all this on Covid---it's easier that way :):)

All good. David Beaty was Kansas' coach who got fired prior to them wanting to bring in Les Miles. His buyout was ~9 Million (compared to JCP's 20+ million) and what ended up happening was something like they found out a coach went into a room where players were watching videos and they determined that that was enough of a violation to void his contract.

Ended up settling in court & basically ushered in this era of trying to get out of buyouts for coaches which is apparently what UT is trying to do now.

TBH that might be the only sane thing to do.

I am fully convinced that no one knows anything. It is all conjecture. All we can do is wait.
What we do know is this has been handled poorly from a PR point of view.
My biggest question is, If things are so bad, why did Hooker sign with UT? He had lots of options. He is not all world, but he is a solid QB. With all the dysfunction being discussed in media and social media, why did he pick UT?
