Retained from the previous staff. He was Anderson's OC.

Sounds like nobody wants to come in and work for Butch, so he had to convince the old guys to stay.

To be fair, two guys took the job and then got better offers they wanted. The Texas QB coach is better than Arkansas State OC job. Little different than “no one wants it.”

QBs and receivers love Coach Heckendorf. He is pass happy. They were 14th in nation in total offense under him. The problem was they could not run the ball and often if pass game was off, then they had lots of three and outs. If he can incorporate the run, he may be a good hire.
BTW, his offense had receivers running wide open in most games.

The name we're tracking most heavily right now is A.J. Artis from Tennessee, who holds that position for the Volunteers. He's been pushing hard to get this job. One source told me that many up there are trying to get out of Knoxville. If he's offered the job, he'll take it. Byron Jerideau and Shaq Wilson are both up there with him. This was Artis' first year leading the strength staff after taking over for Craig Fitzgerald in June. He played wide receiver at Campbell and graduated in 2015.
