wouldn't count on it
Why? We’re still offering recruits. The fact that Pruitt has been told he can’t hire assistants is all we need to know at this point.
Taking a high school recruit is a little different that a transfer QB. Why is the kid coming to a place where he doesn't know who is OC or HC will be next year?

Johnson & Johnson and Pope are important imo. Best pass rusher, reliable WR, #1 TE once healthy. Important/weak positions.
BJ is a meh receiver. Not an SEC talent. Pope was a great blocker, but not much of a receiving threat and who knows how he will be after the back. DJ might be our best pass rusher, but that isn't saying much. He isn't very good. Him being gone gives more opportunity to the young guys who are much more talented. We won't miss any of these guys and none of them make any difference in the W/L column.

Seems like a formality at this point ... whether he's gone tomorrow or next season. I've always thought Pruitt is a damn good football coach, clearly better than Butch, but many of the same lack of CEO/organizational/personal skills were obvious from Day 1 — and I raised some of those concerns throughout his first two seasons.

From afar, it was clear that 2020 was a disaster for JP and the Vols. Development appeared to stall (can't imagine I would've been too kind to Crouch or the offensive line in any review pieces), blowout losses continued, and perhaps most concerning, his revamped staff of recruiters didnt deliver a stud class as envisioned. In a normal year, perhaps JP gets another opportunity, but giving him a chance to hire another slew of coaches in an obvious dead-man-walking season (right after an investigation to boot) just reeks of Dooley 2012.

The Vols have had a bad record of hiring coaches of late, but that doesn't automatically mean you can't get the next one right. Personally, I dont understand the allure of NFL retreads like OBrian (who publicly hated recruiting at PSU) or Marrone. There are other quality candidates out there though like Napier, who reportedly has been so picky about his next landing spot because unless a school says yes to his giant binder plan (staffing, off-field personnel, S&C, facility upgrades, etc.) or Caldwell (this would be a real long-term play, IMO). From all that I've gathered, I don't see Freeze at UT, even though many around him swear he'd love the job. I dont imagine Herman or Gus would elicit the most favorable responses from Vol Nation, but there's little doubt that both, flaws and all, are better head coaches than what Tennessee has had in more than a decade.

Yeah, honestly I doubt he see's the field here regardless of who's the coach. Same deal as the kid that transferred from Maryland

Maybe, but Hill was coming off a bad knee injury. Don't think it's comparable. Hooker ran for about 1,000 yards in 2 seasons where he didn't play every game.

That's a great add to the QB room imo. Had a good 2019 season. Struggled a little last year
Dang! I'm very impressed with his stats. Never seen him play, but appears like a strong add. Had 9 rushing TDs this season, over 5 ypc, on top of a 154 passer rating 👀

Zero doubt Chaney wants his shot with a true DT guy.

Marrone would be a horrible hire compared to kiffin freeze or even naper. With Kiffin and freeze the fans automatically buy in and so do players and recruits. Naper my take some time, but has huge upside. Marrone would have to prove he can coach at all. .500 record at syracuse isn't anything to brag about....it worse than bragging about butch's .62 winning % in the same conference.
