Any coach that you hired, with the exception of someone like Saban or Dabo, would be a gamble. But do you want real roll of the dice (Marrone, Chadwell, Napier, etc.) or something more of a calculated risk, like Herman or Gus? Herman won almost 2/3rds of his conference games at Texas. Should they have been better than that? Of course, and that's why he was fired. But at least he won some notable games, played for a conference title, won a NY6 bowl, and never had a losing record. Gus won 60% of his SEC games over 8 years (and in a much tougher conference/division than Herman), almost won a title in his first season, played for the SEC title twice (won once), had more success against Saban than any other coach.

Herman, Gus, and Freeze have all proven way more at this level than Marrone has.

Yes, they have. And Marrone has had success at the level above this one. You can't just scoff at successful seasons in the NFL. It's big, big boy football. It means he understands coaching and scheming. You don't go to an AFC Championship Game without understanding strengths and how to scheme the opponent.

But, I get it. We won't all agree. I am not even advocating for him really. But for those who just look at the "numbers," there is more to it. I have said for a while now that people have to do research to see WHY numbers are the way they are. We have such a certain way we receive data, and I simply care to look deeper.

Here's a possibility I see, because this is Tennessee we're talking about...

The wheels are rolling as you say, but the internal investigation takes way longer than anybody anticipates for whatever reason. Sometime this summer, they've satisfied themselves enough to conclude we're guilty of some major infraction(s), meaning they need to terminate Pruitt immediately. We do so and begin a coaching search right on the verge of fall camp, and have to end up hiring somebody like the O-line coach at Idaho St.

Tyra has a very unfortunate surname.

I mean, he had one really good year out of 6 total. There are a bunch of NFL (and college) coaches who have had just one good year. Did their GM blow up the team in Jax? Yeah probably, but just because he had a GM blow the team up above him doesn't mean he's a "proven" coach in any form or fashion. Maybe there is a good coach hiding behind a 38-60 record. We just don't know though.

That takes too much time, energy and sometimes analytical ability. Many people simply want easily digestible, surface info. They feel more apt to handlen it and less confused. They understood this all the way back in the 1800's and it is why they gave us an electoral college and then a stringent 2-party political system.
