That's fine - and I'm saying that Marrone is unequivocally a terrible coach. I just think that Tennessee needs to hire a guy who, whether it was at a good or a bad organization, had success as a HC at the P5 level. Marrone might be good, but we don't know, and he hasn't really demonstrated it at any previous stop.

Maybe that's a harsh judgment because he's coached at places, especially Jax, where decisions were made above him that made his job really difficult. But I think it's where Tennessee is as a program. Marrone, whether it was his fault or not, hasn't really proven anything. It isn't like he was good at Syracuse, Buffalo, or Jax for a numbers of years before struggling or being forced out. He was up and down at a G5 program, appeared to be doing well at Buffalo then bolted, then had flash in the pan success at Jax.

If he is thought of as truly a great coach that just happens to have coached at tough places, then I'd expect him to get interest from another NFL team and stay in the NFL.

It's all a crapshoot, really. But the people who make the decisions should and do know more. Freeze is a gamble, too, and some are willing to take that risk. Herman is a gamble based on the rumors of not being able to get along with people and that he didn't work out at a school in a worse league. I don't really see how those guys have "proven" long term success either.

My guess is he will land in the NFL again. Maybe not as a HC right away though.

Nobody has glorified him. You specifically said Graham hasn’t been good with the RBs and your example for this take is Chandler, lol. In what world is it Grahams fault that Chandler isn’t good?

It’s his job to coach him that’s what he’s paid to do. Clearly hes not being coached. Just like our wonderful DBs. It’s on Ansley and Pruitt that they aren’t coached to turn and look for the ball but they aren’t. Your seriously going to say that’s not on them either?

Thompson of all players should know and he refuses to do it.

I would think the Governor, of any state, would have his hands full during this trying time. Just seems odd to me.

Once again, we have schools where they pay people to make these decisions, yet people high up are micro-managing. That's not even the governor's job.

How’d he not work out? Was he not 7-3 to close the year? Texas is a bit unrealistic at times. They need a dose of what Tennessee has gotten over the last 10 years.

Any coach that you hired, with the exception of someone like Saban or Dabo, would be a gamble. But do you want real roll of the dice (Marrone, Chadwell, Napier, etc.) or something more of a calculated risk, like Herman or Gus? Herman won almost 2/3rds of his conference games at Texas. Should they have been better than that? Of course, and that's why he was fired. But at least he won some notable games, played for a conference title, won a NY6 bowl, and never had a losing record. Gus won 60% of his SEC games over 8 years (and in a much tougher conference/division than Herman), almost won a title in his first season, played for the SEC title twice (won once), had more success against Saban than any other coach.

Herman, Gus, and Freeze have all proven way more at this level than Marrone has.

I just wonder if their ears perked up at all when Herman was fired

Well, I don't disagree and believe that schools can make bad decisions. Those fired coaches can be successful somewhere else like Barnes.

But the discussion was "proven longterm success." Herman doesn't have that. Plus, I juts realized today that he lost to TCU 3 out of 4 times. TCU had records of 5-7 and 6-4 in 2 of those seasons. Seriously, that is akin to UT losing to Vandy. That gets you fired at Texas.

I’m saying that CHANDLER isn’t good. No matter how much you coach a guy, sometimes they just don’t have it, see JG. Don’t move the goalposts either. I’m only talking about RBs. So here’s a question, Gray being obviously better that Chandler is an indictment on who?

As part of that process, we are currently working with attorneys Kyle Skillman and Michael Glazier with Bond, Schoeneck & King.
