I think he would do well here
People keep talking about a "Rick Barnes" type hire. Well that is his ceiling.

He made Syracuse respectable which no one else has been able to do, and as far as I'm concerned he succeeded in Jacksonville, which is one of the most dysfunctional front offices in the NFL.

Does anybody think Marrone can beat UGA, Bama, or UF?

I can see Freeze or Chadwell doing it. Hell, Fickle came closer against UGA then we have even sniffed lately.

I just don’t think Marrone is the guy we need.

No, he’s not the guy we need.

However, we have some fans that just want to give up and hire another poor coach because he’s better than Pruitt.

There’s better options out there than Marrone.

Freeze, sure. Chadwell? There is literally nothing to show he could beat the middle tier of the SEC, let alone those three.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d take him, but it’d be more about hope than a track record. Marrone was a half away from playing in the Super Bowl.

I don't see Marrone doing it. He was 25-25 at Syracuse and has a .388 winning percentage in the NFL.

Saban also has six National Championships under his belt

I think you are helping make his point.

If you were trying to disagree or voice your displeasure with a Marrone hire, you should've said something like, "Saban had a national title at LSU before he went to the NFL, so Bama knew he could get it done on that level."

Not jumping on you or anything, just what I thought I read amongst you guys.

Thamel is stirring the waters. There is no smoke around Marrone. Unless there are major recruiting violations, Pruitt will be here two more years.

Still wonder why Thamel randomly mentioned us
Because we have a coach that is on the hot seat/thought by many of our fans to be on the verge of getting fired, plus we have more fans that are active on Twitter relative to other schools. He knows it will get attention.

Agreed. You are what you’re record says. Yet I am hearing things in this thread like Saban was only a .400 coach in the NFL, and Marrone could be another Carrol.

This is lunacy.

Odds are that this will be closer to a Harbaugh type coach, at best.

With the ****ing Jaguars. Can't be understated. The Jags love losing games like Jag fans love methamphetamine.

Marrone would assemble a great staff, and player development would be good.

Zero chance we would go oh fer against our rivals with Marrone. Dude is more proven as a football coach than Freeze that's for sure.

That’s why the Saban comparisons are dumb.

Saban has had a very successful college career despite being below average in the NFL.

Marrone was mediocre at Syracuse.

It would be a very weak hire.

I could get behind a potential Marrone hire. A guy with experience in the Southeast, and has been a HC in college and the NFL. I'd be curious as to what his coaching staff would look like, but I would think he'd be able to address any culture issues head on and at very least would be the safest bet to 'stabilize the program' for both current and future success.

I also feel that if the perceived indecision taking place behind the scenes within the administration is anywhere close to accurate, that this is the type of hire that would garner more agreement than whomever the 'next big thing' would be from a coaching perspective.

My only question would be how he would recruit, but I'd almost guarantee it would boost the trust factor throughout the program as a whole. Fulmer would trust him to run the football program, and in turn I think Marrone would hire coaches he trusts to do their damn jobs and stay out of the way.

Not a sexy hire by any means, but solid.

I wouldn't read much into the winning percentage in the NFL. He went 9-7 in Buffalo in year two with EJ Manuel and Kyle Orton at QB. I think it was the first 9 win season in Buffalo in a long time.

He took the Jags to the AFC Championship game. He succeeded in a couple of years with 2 franchises that have been dismal.

Why was he fired at buff?

That one seems odd
