Took a Syracuse team that had been worst in its conference for 5+ years and made them conference champions in year 4. If the current goal is to bring in a steady influence/right the ship/establish culture type hire, we could do a whole lot worse.

Personally, I would prefer Napier among the realistic options, but again, we could do much worse than Marrone.
Mediocrity for 4 years again. We need a splash hire that will move the needle. With the coaches out there right now he’s bottom tier.

The program is separate from the administration. This is a good program by virtue of its brand, historical success, and resources. However, it is run by incompetent, overly conservative people with no sense of urgency.
100% agree. The problem is they are the ones who make the changes and hire our coaches. So they are making us less and less relevant every year.

Who is this splash hire of the coaches that are out there right now in your opinion? And no I’m not at all saying we should hire Marrone. Just curious what other peeps think

I am lost. I am offline for almost a day and we are back in the coaching search mode? CS 2020/2021 is like the hot girl who is never going to give you a chance in the sack but continues to hang out with you and lead you on like there’s a possibility.

Marrone would be a very solid Rick Barnes style hire. Making an AFC championship with Blake Bortles as your QB isn’t luck. After losing Campbell and trading Ramsey... they have been in tear down mode anyway so i don’t think it’s as simple as “he went 1-15 and has 3 straight losing seasons”

So we are supposed to believe Fulmer has backed Pruitt throughout this entire deal until Marrone is available? Now that he's available, he'll fire Pruitt and bring in his buddy Marrone? If this happens, it will confirm that we are a dumpster fire.

He would be an underwhelming hire.

Don’t try to spin this in a good way.

That kind of worries me that Thamel mentioned us specifically. Marrone was here for one season 19 years ago, why not mention that he coached at UGA and GT too?

Remember when Schianos name was floated out there by the media to see why the reaction would be just as we were about to sign him?

Is this the same thing happening?

History is just that...history. It is in the past and has no implications to the future of this program now.

Heck, you worried about the Spanish Navy? Historically, the Spanish Armada was quite a fleet as well.
My point is that our program has a recognizable brand. That's an asset. We haven't been good in a long time, but if you wear that Power T somewhere people go "Oh look, that guy has a Tennessee shirt on." It still has implications now because your brand can be used to help resurrect the program; you don't have to create a brand from scratch.

Good background/relationship with the AD might be a bigger factor in winning than all of us on this side of the office door realize.
