It’s kind of like this for me. I think Pruitt is capable of evolving into a good head coach. Why? His players love him, he’s a good recruiter, he knows what a top program looks like in this league, and he’s one of the best defensive coaches in the game. With that being said, if someone told me we would hire Hugh Freeze if we fired Pruitt, I would fire him immediately. That’s not going to happen, so I’m cool with our leadership sticking behind him.

Year three Defense was the worse. DB's can't cover slants which is suppose to be his expertise. Took over coaching the DL, never improved. Not sure where his great defensive coaching improved anything.

How do you fix a horrid offense while keeping the same OC who runs the same system tho? Are we just hoping that a new QB magically helps us start scoring 30+ ppg and our stale offensive philosophy will work this year if we try really hard?

Doesn’t seem like a recipe for success.

In my opinion, it’s pretty simple. Pruitt walks into the offensive meeting room, says “y’all score as many points as you can, aight.” Pruitt walls out of the room, closes the door behind him, and doesn’t come back to the meeting room until the next week, where he repeats the exact same phrase and action.

How many years does it take to evolved as a HC? Its been three years with Fulmer baby sitting him.

If he so good at defense then how come he still has not figured out how to stop the slant. Other teams was boat racing his defenses. How did other schools develop their players during the china virus? If you are a good coach then you know what to do. Pruitt, not so much.
That was last year with all the contact tracing.... his 2nd defense was a top 30 defense.

I think the primary focus is on reshaping the offense. Pruitt needs to figure out an offensive identity and philosophy before he can hire the right assistants. He can replace Brumbaugh and add another defensive guy. He needs to be more of a HC and not a defensive coach, so adding another guy on that side would (theoretically) help. They've been running through scenarios-- but the top choices might not be available or willing to come.

Any insight on what they are thinking philosophically? I’m no insider, but the beat remedy may simply be for Pruitt to give the offensive guys an absolute green light and get out of their way???

What do you consider success or failure? I’d love to hear how you would rate this year. Is your assessment based on wins and losses or dollars and cents?
This year was a failure, no question about it. I believe this program needed a complete overhaul before Pruitt took over. It was always going to take four or five years to really get this thing turned. That’s the vision Pruitt sold Fulmer on before he was hired, and that’s the vision now. Let him get three or four classes of guys that he’s recruited and developed, and then let’s see where we’re at. I happen to think this next year, with good QB play, will look a lot different. We have some dudes in his freshman and sophomore classes. Let’s see how it plays out.

I agree with you..... I think last season was a mess bc of what the staff had to deal with..... I am worried about if he can make good coaching hires, if he will still be able to recruit at a decent level, and if he will be comfortable modernizing the offense?

Disagree with the first part whole-heartedly, Pruitt and co did a piss poor job handling covid issues compared to other staffs. Totally agree with th last half of your post. In fact, I worry about the very same things with Fulmer.

Disagree. I think Phillip is doing fine. He’s given Pruitt everything he needs to have success. He’s allocated the necessary funding for the immediate staff, the support staff, facilities, etc. I’d rather have that than some bean counter. I’ve been frustrated with Pruitt on numerous occasions, but at the end of the day, cool heads who can see the big picture will prevail. Which is what we have in Boyd, Plowman and Fulmer.
Worst take ever. What part of 3-7, most double digit losses in school history and getting embarrassed by KY at home makes you think the big picture is okay??

I just don't understand this excuse. Even if the covid protocols in knoxville more strict, everyone had to deal with it on some level.

I saw absolutely nothing this season which demonstrates this is a competent staff. Misuse of QBs, undisciplined team, no player development, defense got worse, putrid offense. I saw absolutely nothing to hang our hat on showing this staff did much of anything right
I went into last season thinking it was a throw away season.... the restrictions they put on our team..... I didn’t see anyway we could bc we pretty much weren’t allowed to practice or develop our players..... all the negativity with the program has me agreeing to move on from Pruitt bc I feel the deck is stacked against him..... if the majority of our talent was older players..... it may not have hurt as bad but I feel the majority of our talent is younger players that need that practice and development.

Think about this . A disgraced Hugh Freeze gets a second chance at Liberty. I highly doubt he got the cream of the crop assistants. Nowhere near the talent a new coach would get here. Nowhere near the money we have thrown at assistants.

He got the job done with what he had.
That’s what we need....Get the job with what we have.

This is also one of the things that bothers me. If this was always a rebuilding year, then why not play young guys more? We sucked anyways. Why not get your young talent in the game and get them ready for next year? He also genuinely thought he could win with JG when it was obvious to everyone in the country he couldnt. That lack of awareness is concerning long term. The freshmen barely played and now we are going into next year and still don't really know what we have.

Neither, long time supporter. Pretty sure Stud has been closer to the university for longer than anyone on here, doesn’t mean I agree with his synopsis of the state were in.
I don’t mind folks disagreeing with me. That’s life. I’ve been a long time lurker on this board, and finally decided to start posting. I have had the pleasure of meeting some important people over the years up on The Hill, and let me be the first to say I’ve been as mad as anyone about what’s gone on up there for the past decade plus. However, the difference for me now, I trust our leadership. Phillip Fulmer is going to do what he thinks is best for this program, regardless of what anyone thinks. I’ll stick behind him.

Other programs didn’t have the same restrictions during program..... wanya Morris is one example of many that they kept in isolation for more than three weeks that never had a positive test.
