Sarkisian is targeting Lupoi for DL according to the Texas sites. LSU and Ole Miss are still the favorites for Bo Davis.

I think the primary focus is on reshaping the offense. Pruitt needs to figure out an offensive identity and philosophy before he can hire the right assistants. He can replace Brumbaugh and add another defensive guy. He needs to be more of a HC and not a defensive coach, so adding another guy on that side would (theoretically) help. They've been running through scenarios-- but the top choices might not be available or willing to come.
If this is the plan Pruitt has just now figured out going into year 4. We are totally screwed! He should have been fired after Kentucky and Fulmer should have been fired for extending him!

You can’t just “write a check” these days......you have folks at UT that would take the money and spend it on gender studies of crickets in Indonesia instead of football.

Yeah, this is false. When I donate, I give to a fund that goes towards a scholarship for first generation college students or my old department. You can specify, although they would like for you to donate no-strings-attached money, I would imagine a lot don’t.

Surprise. No one wants to move to Knoxville to work for a lame duck coach

I’m sure you’re right and that’s the problem!

If Freeze, Napier, Chadwell or anyone else decent has another good year and is available next year, we will lose out on them to a team in a better situation to win now. Fla St, Michigan, LSU or some other surprise school coaching position is going to open up next year and that opportunity will be better than UT because they didn’t let their programs be run under the ground before they made a change. Then UT will struggle once again to find a coach and end up with a third tier dud like Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt.

I bought into the hype and ignored how awful we were at the beginning of last year because of our easy end of year schedule. But this year looked exactly like the beginning of last year. So after three seasons under Pruitt we have been terrible most of the time. Even games we won we usually looked terrible most of the game yet somehow won.

This is Tennessee’s direction under him and more time isn’t going to change that. By the time we fire him we will replace him with... someone just like him.

I am an Alumnus of UT and will always bleed Orange. But all hope is gone. All of it. I’m tapped out. Pruitt doesn’t have IT. And all indications are that our administration doesn’t either.

So let’s give Pruitt more time to hire terrible assistants and have a terrible 2022 recruiting class and lose lots of games next year THEN fire him and we can all meet back here to talk about the rumor that Vegas has fired Gruden and we are going to finally hire him.
GBO
I’ll reiterate that I still believe in Pruitt. Coach Fulmer, Boyd and Plowman do as well. The three have examined the situation thoroughly, and it appears as if they feel bringing Pruitt back is the best option. It’s not as easy as many people think to just go out here and hire some big time coach. The notion that Tennessee won’t spend money and they don’t care about winning is pure nonsense. This AD wouldn’t provide coach Pruitt with every tool necessary to win like they have over the last 3 years if they weren’t concerned with winning.

Herman takes next season off to recharge his batteries. Pruitt fails next year and is fired. Herman is then announced as the next UT head coach sometime next December.
If Pruitt is fired after next year, I think Freeze becomes more of a possibility as well after being at Liberty for multiple years

5-5 wouldn't have had elite coaches flocking here, either. The cumulative effect of a dismal decade impacts every part of the program.

That is depressing. And I take it that there are folks at the top that think the situation will actually improve by keeping Fulmer and Pruitt around for another round or two?

Chaney was listed as the OL coach and Cregg was listed as TE's and Tackles.

In essence Chaney and Cregg were co-O line coaches. Chaney coached TE's in the NFL. He knows and has coached every position on offense. I talked with him at a VFL event for about 30 minutes. He told me how he planned to go about converting Aaron Douglas into an OT. He was not going to be play calling with Kiffin in charge. He was an OC without that duty, so he spend more time with each position group while emphasizing the O-line.

For sure he does. We have ran 3 different offenses through 3 years with Pruitt. He needs to figure out what he wants to be.

You folks need to get used to the idea that coach Pruitt will be back next year. While this season has been the worst Tennessee football season of my lifetime, I still believe Pruitt is a good coach. The Phillip Fulmer bashing on this board has been absurd. Phillip has dedicated over half of his life to this great university and I trust him to do what he feels is best. He’s smarter than 99% of the folks on this board. Jeremy is going to shake the staff up again, bring in another solid recruiting class along with a couple of attention getting transfers, and we’re going to have a solid 2021 season. Let’s ride.

Ok. Objectively, what makes you think this? Fulmer being "dedicated" doesn't mean that he's an effective AD.

You mention that Pruitt is going to shake up the staff again but he doesn't have a track record of hiring good coaches. And that's also not considering the hot seat he is going to be on. He admittedly hired a DL coach that he fired midseason--a guy who he didn't even interview--just gave the job to. His offense has near the bottom of the SEC each year he has been here. He's had tons of coaching movement each season he has been a coach. We lost every game this year by double digits. All of the talk around the program is that he's a giant ******* to work with and can't perform any of his "outside of football" tasks that is required by the HC. Our players are not developing.

Go get Herman or Freeze now and let them start working on the 2022 class and start our climb out of the dumpster.

Freeze, Napier, and Chadwell will most likely be there for the picking this time next year as well. Especially Freeze and Chadwell. Give the Reverend another year to make sure he can run a clean program, give Chadwell another year to make sure this year wasn’t a fluke. If Jeremy can’t get it done next year, go ahead and bring one of those guys in. However, I still have confidence that coach Pruitt can get this program turned around if given proper time. We need stability, and those at the top feel the same way. Boyd, Plowman and Fulmer seem to all be on the same page. I’ll trust those three over anybody on this board. I’ve been a lurker for a long time, but it seems apparent to me that the critical thinking skills on this board collectively aren’t too good.

Bad stability is not the option otherwise Arkansas probably would have kept Chad Morris for longer. You haven't really put forth any good arguments to be attacking critical thinking

To bad the administration and other boosters can't see this and have the courage to make the change. So we continue to swim in the kiddy pool of mediocracy

A lot of boosters are tired of bankrolling this mess. If you think fans are sick of it, imagine how people being asked to donate and donate and donate to fund futility feel. It's never-ending.

Imagine if they had just went out and opened their check book up and hired a real coach. More than likely this program would not be in the shape that its in and probably have saved money. No, they want to run out here and pay 3-4 million and expect Saban results with these dollar tree hires. Its costing them more money to flat out suck. Dont want to hear, who was they going to hire. Money talks. If Pruitt is here this year and I am sure that he will be. Then you can turn the lights out on this program.
I don’t think that’s how it works..... to hire the dream coach.... it is more about the dream coach wanting your job and opportunity...... urban Meyer always coveted the Ohio state job..... nick Saban was dying to get out of the NFL when Alabama opened up( before that they had Shula, dubose, price, rich Rodriguez)..... Texas A&M got Fisher( who I’m still not 100% sold on) bc he was getting ready to lose his job at Florida state..... Michigan hired what was considered an amazing hire in Harbaugh( he craved that job) and look how that has turned out..... Florida has went through several coaches before getting to Mullen who doesn’t appear to be a championship level coach.... it doesn’t matter how much we pay a coach.... we just need the right coach...the program won’t be destroyed if Pruitt stays but the next hire needs to be the right hire and we have to let that coach build the program.

Any idea if Chaney will make the OL hire? Just seems like you would want the OC to get someone he knows.
