Tom Herman thread [merged]

What are they using the resources for now?
In part, up until recently, the buyout of our previous "Home Run" hire Butch Jones. If we fire Pruitt and Co, we'll be using 4-5 million a year to pay him off.

We need to use some funds to buyout the bad buyers at the top, eh?

I know it won't happen, but a smart move would be to hire Herman as QB coach and let Texas pay his salary until Pruitt's contract expires or Pruitt leaves voluntarily, guaranteeing Herman a salary of $6M/yr after Texas's obligation expires. Then, tell Pruitt that he reports to Herman and will retain the title of HC and DC until his contract expires.

That was really awkward how they strung out that firing. Very Tennessee'ish.
Texas took the "Babe Ruth swing" at Urban Meyer and were wrong to think money always talks.

Urban PERHAPS let their interest leak because Tom Herman had his toes (or another body part) in the Zach Smith issues at OSU that made Urban's life hell in his last season. I doubt Tom is on Urban's Christmas card list. Just the known interest of Texas in Meyer weakened Herman's position at Texas....... which already wasn't good.

Nothing has been the same since Texas and TAMU no longer play.
Texas fans used to tell these “absolutely hilarious“ Aggie jokes.

The joke is on Texas. Their greed forced A&M into the SEC and since that move, A&M has been by far the best program, with the only Heisman winner of the two and Texas has been OU's bitch. Texas has not won a Big 12 championship in 12 years.

Just not going and continuing my ban on buying anything UT, I am but one, but I plan to continue to speak with my wallet

Yeah! Let’s all quit on Tennessee completely because then we’ll definitely have the resources to fix the situation....

Having the resources to fix the problem surely hasnt done much to fix the problems.
it’s this “we must support the school no matter what” attitude that gives the school the confidence to keep making second rate decisions and hires. They know they can do everything second rate and the money will keep rolling in.

Texas booster meddling is worse than ours, and the reason that the job isn't as coveted as it once was. Their boosters are in everyone's business. I think that scares off a lot of coaches.

Dave Hart caught a great hire on the rebound with Barnes as did North Carolina with Mack Brown. Football is a tough rebuild particularly in the SEC. Texas has thrown a lot of money at their post Mack Brown hires and it has not worked to their satisfaction. They have all the resources in the world and a top recruiting area. Pruitt has recruited well so the Vol job will be more attractive post Pruitt. Funny that Ole Miss fired Ed Orgeron just as he had restocked that program. They hired Houston Nutt and had a couple of good seasons and the bottom fell out. Recruiting is the key so that is what Fulmer will evaluate hardest assuming the current investigation does not reveal misdeeds that let UT fire Pruitt for cause. If so, Herman could be the first coach called. He should be seasoned up after the jobs at Houston and Texas.

This is a common malady among these coaches and particularly those in the NBA. I've worked for corporations large and small... I've been on the "inside" when discussing hires from custodian to management. Companies WANT to find and hire qualified minorities and particularly black men. But you don't just "hire them in a position of power in our company". That's earned. It takes years of hard work, sacrifice, intelligence, and good decisions.

As for dating or marrying my daughter... same message I gave my dad about 30 years ago... I want my daughter to date and marry a faithful Christian who will love her and take good care of her. I don't care what color his skin is. That cuts both ways. Too many young black men get into to trouble, won't keep a job, and use and leave women.

Not skin color... character.
Absolutely correct. Not politically correct, however. Approximately 60% of black kids grow up without a father figure in their home. That doesn't mean they are bad kids. It does, in too many cases, mean they aren't raised to respect authority, are lacking in discipline, and are "mentored" by older kids with the same social issues. Their mothers have a difficult time working full time and acting as mother and father, particularly when they haven't had a responsible father figure in their lives. Therein lies the main issue, which few who are concerned with the plight of black kids are willing to even acknowledge. Until this issue is widely acknowledged, the situation will only get worse.

Where did I say I wouldn't take Herman?

I literally said if I were Fulmer I would be on the phone with Herman's agent in the post.

Just making a comment on how pitiful things have gotten that 8-4 or 9-3 coaches like Malzahn or Herman are such clear upgrades on the moron we have now.
Herman would be a upgrade over every coach we have hired since Fulmer and so would Sark.
