Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

It’s a lot easier to just say we had a pretty good offense under Debo/butch
If someone had told me three years ago that we would hire Pruitt and we would have these results, I would have much rather given him another year to try and figure it out. If he moved on from JG, who knows what could have happened. A lot of our losses were close unlike the blow outs we get now.

If they keep him then honestly the best case scenario CJP wins 8 games next year, brings in a top ten to fifteen class and gets kicked to the curb the following year for a proven winner. It’s excruciating to keep waiting but programs rarely go from bad to great. You want to hand the next coach a solid roster and a winning record so that they only need to go from good to great. We want to be in Auburn or Georgia’s position going into a coaching search not what we have handed coaches over the last decade+. In that scenario I would actually be more optimistic about the future than if we cut ties now (barring a freeze hire). Of course, if CJP sucks again next year then you have to move on and the roster will only be marginally better than it was in 2017. So quite the bet from PF.
This is Tennessee we're talking about.

If Pruitt won 8 games next year and signed a top 10-15 recruiting class afterwards, we'd offer him a fully guaranteed 12-year, $100m extension. There's no way they'd fire him after such a season.

We have been calling Florida beatable (and rightfully so) the last 5 years until after we play them. Do you not remember all the talk about their suspensions/attrition and how Mullen can’t control them or recruit the last three years? Florida doesn’t spend the money or lockdown recruiting in their state to be a truly elite program like bama or lsu. So i do disagree with you. We’ve had the better roster at least in 3 of the last handful of meetings.

Mullen is a much better coach. It was painfully obvious to me when I was sitting in Neyland stadium 3 years ago watching us getting our brains bashed in. I wanted to blame it on Butch’s players, but now it’s painfully obvious Butch’s players were the best on the team.

Despite what people may think of him. I’m just in disbelief that Fulmer would hitch his wagon to Pruitt.

We’re really going to do Derek Dooley 2012 all over again? Even down to replacing 75-80% of the staff, and cost ourselves more money to fire replace the staff next year.

Fun times.

Worse if Pruitt is given more time if nothing changes

I keep thinking that our admin cannot become any more stupid and I keep discovering that they can surpass peak stupidity with remarkably little effort. I will support whomever is coaching our team, but we all know that we are going to remain irrelevant for many years to come.

The default decision was always to bring him back. Not many things could have changed that-- and none of them happened.
You never answered my question a few days ago. Does the university comprehend they are losing the best damn fan base in college football? Serious question, do they even realize that? Cause it’s true. Never thought I’d say it but F*** Tennessee football.

Poop program ran by people that make poop decisions. Poop! I have spoken. This is the way.
It's certainly ran by people who make poop decisions, but it isn't a poop program, which is what makes it so sad.

It's a great program with great support that keeps showing up year after year to get kicked in the nuts and deserves so much better.

Not surprising nothing happened. I completely understand (and share) the desire for change, but we are UT. I knew we wouldn't do anything. History has shown our admin just does not care.

UF QB signee Carlos Del Rio is still pretty average at best. He has a huge arm, but he is pretty inaccurate though. Warner Robins is killing him and he's already thrown 2 picks.

That’s ridiculous. He’s replacing how many assistants? Who aren’t coming on 1 year contracts, so it’s laughable to believe if he wins 5 games next season that they will replace him.
That’s a 2 win improvement and a couple games away from acceptable for the 🤡 that would bring him back after this year.

So why the angst today? Nothing happened. Nothing was set to happen. Same old same old.
Today? I've felt this way for a long time. No angst, more like the last little bit of hope and patience are gone...

You hit the nail on the head brother. "Same old, same old..."

Well done UT... 👍

AP and Hubbs have been saying a lot of recruits are reading the board and that fan response is hurting the recruiting. I wouldn't typically care, but if this staff is coming back, we need to land that in state class next year. It is loaded and could change the direction of the program.
Agreed. If he's staying you want the program left better than when he found it. We need a regular year with regular camps. Have we missed out on some big prospects? Yes. But I like his recruits he's brought in. Needs the assistants to develop them if he's staying.
