When should we be hiring assistant coaches

If assistants think that CPJ is gone after next year. Why would they be interested in a "one year stand "?

When should we be hiring assistant coaches and does the lack of hiring indicate that Pruitt returning may not be a done deal?
If Pruitt stays he better hire a new QB coach. And a new DC coach. How many time did the other teams pass over the middle for a big gain.

I realize hiring people may take a few weeks but I do find it interesting we’ve not announced any firings yet. Because if you aren’t keeping Pruitt you aren’t going to let him start firing/hiring assistants

I’m leaning heavily now that Pruitt is gone. Brumbaugh and now Friend already are. Weinke, Neids, and Tee are next. Felton likely is gone to join Butch. It’s a complete clown show at this point and I think Pruitt would jump at a settlement just to leave. I don’t think he wants to be here anymore than Vols fans want him here.

My wife and I watched this movie the other night with our five year old, he was not impressed.

I went ahead and cut him out of my will......

With Pruitt as HC, I’m not sure any assistant coach is safe from his obvious blunders and mismanagement

My gut says powers that be are not sastified with 3-7 and Fulmer giving the contract extension to Pruitt and himself before the season is a really bad look for him.He looks incompetent.I don’t think either deserved the extension and absolutely no one is calling trying to hire either of them away. I suspect we’ll hear something either way right after the CFP.
Your gut?

No matter how bad it "feels", in this case, you don't jump, walk, run, or allow yourself to be shoved into a settlement.

His agent will deal with that. He will show up for work until he is told not to. I would rather have a better product on the football field than this coach has produced, but... I would not expect him to throw the contract and related monies promised to him in said contract away.

Honestly I don't think there's much to read into this. A lot of hires occur post NSD.

Could be the Power Trust isn’t allowing hires to be made yet. Fulmer isn’t the one skinning this cat. He’s waiting for marching orders to give to Pruitt...whichever way that goes. Someone made a great point the other day. If we don’t make a move now, it’s quite likely we will be battling Michigan, USC, Texas (among others) for a new coach next year. I don’t think we hold an advantage against those schools at all.

This is where we’re headed: Pruitt has very few connections outside of who is still on the staff. The longer this drags on Pruitt will either a) be fired with cause found from what the NCAA finds and or b) he has trouble filling the vacancies and decides to negotiates a reduced buyout to get out of town. Then c) instead of hiring a new coach so late in the game, Fulmer will insert himself into head coach and be the “interim” until a new coach can be found. He will fill the staff with familiar coaches from yesteryear and either get fired after next year when he fails or he’ll hand over the reigns to Tee at a later date if enough success is had to keep his job. This is all crazy and I can’t believe I sat here and took the time to type this all up but being Tennessee this would not be the most surprising thing to happen.

We have to be patient......Freeze can’t hire assistant’s until he is officially hired.
Good luck with that if it makes you feel better. I’m not waiting any longer keeping my hopes up we get a new HC. There is not a consensus among the power brokers to get rid of Pruitt according to some of the reliable sources here. Unfortunately we have another year of tough times for the football program.

You don’t fire assistant coaches that have expiring contracts. If you do, you likely owe some severance pay. If you don’t, the contracts simply expire, and you replace the coaches when a new head coach is hired.

I could be wrong......I often am; however “if” Pruitt stays through next year (and by most accounts he is.....although I’m still hopeful) I suspect he will stay another as well.

Next year (just my opinion) looks to be much better than this year. The schedule will be much easier. Tennessee might have better QB play, and I could certainly see Tennessee winning 6 or 7.....making a bowl, and Fulmer telling everyone how it’s better and we all just need to trust the process.

I’m often serious, when I post.....but hopefully people can tell. When I’m posting in “fun” it’s also “usually” easy to know.

Things have sucked for a long time.......I like to bring a bit of light heartedness and fun to everyone.......along with my displeasure of Pruitt.

Surely you could tell my post was just in fun?

We should’ve already been searching. Word is CjP was told to hold off, however with the holidays, Covid and his grandfather passing who knows if this is true.

I think the inexperience at QB will hurt him next season. I think they only win 5 and just miss out on going to a bowl game.

Very will could be exactly what happens.

I’m not trying to say QB “will” be a strong point. However I feel it has to be better than this year. HB will have had a year under him, and Tennessee will have another young QB. There will be no JG therefore Pruitt will be free to “actually” play either.

I just hope people don’t get “overly” excited “if” Tennessee wins 6 or 7 (or heck even 8) next year.......that isn’t good.....especially if they get blown out by Georgia, Florida and Bama.

They should “have” to win 8 or more and be competitive in all others in order for Pruitt to stay.
