Did my undergrad degree there back in the Bull Davidson days before Lacewell took over. When this was announced I threw up in my mouth. I feel sorry for Jonesboro.

On a side note, it’s close to Memphis. Likely a place he will need to recruit.

Memphis can be a very dangerous place for clueless people.

What are his shortcomings?
I'm not sure that there are any, I should have worded that differently. However this place has a way of exposing them, like the word on Freeze is he's thin skinned. What ultimately did Butch in was he cared too much what people thought and spent more time on his image than he did on the program. If Butch Jones would have had Pruitts don't give a damn attitude he would probably still be here.

When I was in the POTS, Dickey came and gave us a speech where he basically told us we weren't needed as long as the team is winning. Personally, I like to think we contributed to a great gameday environment. I mean, imagine a game without "Rocky Top"? But he was pretty blunt. The only thing that mattered was winning. Personality-wise, Dickey's name suited him, but that might be what made him a good AD.
I would think that even if we were winning, if the POTS disappeared our fans would still have a conniption.

I mean, he technically isn't wrong when he says that winning is the only thing that matters, but that's a horrible example to prove his point.

Gus couldn’t win at Auburn. (Cam won the NC not Gus.) Yes he won but did less with more than anyone else. Never truly developed a QB and my close Auburn friends have hated him since year 2. I’ll pass. Plus, with 21 million coming his way, I doubt he has the feels to get back into the grind anytime soon.

Dickey valued winning above all. I don't think he put much thought into the gameday experience beyond that.

I would love if he took the Butch position at Bama, just to see another fanbase get rankled as a former coach gets paid their millions to go work for a rival. That one stung, and I want someone else to share the experience, lol.

Eh. That's an opinion.

I've just never been enamored with his as a QB savant. Cam is an outlier. Stidahmi thought never reached his potential.

And Bo is very inconsistent. Marshall was the best one he's had imo, for his offense specifically.
Gus only has great teams during his first year with a transfer QB. 2010 Cam, 2013 Marshall, 2017 Stidham. And each of those great teams had diminishing returns from the previous one. In the second year with a transfer QB, or with a QB that he recruited out of high school, he's average.

That's very peculiar, especially for an "offensive coach." The reason Gus stuck around as long as he did is because Kevin Steele was his DC.

What's crazy is this is probably our 5th worst season in the last 10 years. I would say 2017, 2012, 2011, and 2018 were all worst. This hasn't been some historically awful season where we need to fire everyone. If there is no home run plan to smoothly bring in a Freeze level coach, I think we need to change about 3 assistant coaches and hope we find a QB. Then get a plan together for the future.

I don’t know where the crystal clean image of the program comes from. It’s football. It’s gladiators. Fulmer recruited some of the meanest dudes out there. And that’s on and off the field. It’s called the Fulmer Cup for a reason. When we were winning we were doing the same shady things that the Bama’s, UGAs, Clemsons and Ohio States are doing now.

Where have I mentioned any player recruited by any coach. My discussion has been limited to character of a coach who can sign a contract with no real intention of fulfilling it and then running off and leaving kids holding the bag. It is for sure legal, but it is just as sure an indication of the character of the individual. The fact that lots of folks think he will do to UM what he did to us is pretty telling.

How do people not see this? Add in the 4-6 losses per year other than Year One with the other guy's players and Cam. It's not hard to figure out why he was canned. What is hard to figure out is why Auburn could not see it when they signed him to the big extension.
