I threw his name out while 2017 was still happening to us. By the time we were officially looking for a new coach, Taggart had made the jump and Oregon snapped. Looking back at it, I was pulling a Kingston because he was a fail at FIU and the best of his resume was as a top assistant at Miami and (ughh) Bama. Now he’s a legit “homerun hire” and all that affords. Amazing how FICKELL this business is. 😉
Yep. That's why these coaches are just names as far as most of us know. Look behind the names at how they run their program and if that fits at UT.

I think Freeze would do well, but my honest opinion for a candidate?

Mario Cristobal

State of TN talent is getting better, fast, but UT still needs to rely on getting OOS state guys to fill a class. He would add a huge pipeline to Fla talent and most importantly, S Fl talent, He has proven he can build a program back up as well. Does well in the PR realm, has developed talent at Oregon, Sewell will be OL 1st rd pick. so he checks 4 boxes off the top. He wants back in the south, so check #5?

First I’ve heard of Cristobal wanting back in the south. I just figured he was set at Oregon. He’d definitely be in the top group on my list.

I would take Fleck. But I’m honestly surprised that it’s being reported that Briles might be innocent and about to be hired at Texas Tech and we aren’t talking about him more.
He may be innocent but his image is forever tarnished... right or wrong.

You see the reaction to Freeze. Imagine that times a million.

Don’t listen to state run radio today. They were all over how UT needed a possible big win today and how certain coaches, Pruitt included, they could see having a big bounce back year next year without Covid restrictions.
Imagine thinking a win over Vandy, ever, is a big win, let alone this hapless Vandy team.

Aww look at UTAD doing crowd control, talking up Pruitt and ****, cute.

Thats an interesting name for sure but I would pass for 2 reasons. 1) his Oregon team has fallen off the wagon hard this year.
2) I dont want anyone Saban has touched besides Kirby who walked into a loaded program and by the talent he has he hasn't really been successful( where uga is im measuring championships) and kiffin who has a great mind and everyone knew that beforehand. What coach has really been successful after leaving the 5 star factory?

I think Pruitt should get another year because this rebuild was always going to take 4 seasons. But i also think hiring a HC this year will be much easier this year than it will be next year when the market is flooded with firings.

so I’m conflicted.
When the tire goes flat, you don’t need to try to squeeze out the full expected mileage. You fix the problem

Jimbo has gone 9-4, 8-5, and now 7-1. No rational fan would want him fired after a one game difference from year 1 to year 2. We hire guys that have so bad of years that they crater the program.
Exactly have to show progress, or not complete regression. A one game step back isn't a fireable offense. Catering the program and looking anemic is.
