I threw his name out while 2017 was still happening to us. By the time we were officially looking for a new coach, Taggart had made the jump and Oregon snapped. Looking back at it, I was pulling a Kingston because he was a fail at FIU and the best of his resume was as a top assistant at Miami and (ughh) Bama. Now he’s a legit “homerun hire” and all that affords. Amazing how FICKELL this business is. 😉

Played at NIU, short stint in the NFL with 49ers. Was the recruiting coordinator for NIU for one season and in that season NIU brought in Jimmie Ward who started for the 49ers for a while. As WR coach as Rutgers he signed a NfL WR in Leonte Caroo. Schiano took him to Coach in the NFL.

He’s as proven as any coach we could possibly hire. Just Bc he uses a slogan (like 95% of coaches do) doesn’t mean he’s anything like butch Jones at all. Trying to go polar opposite personality of butch landed us a middle school gym teacher who can barely speak English

You do you Hank. Just glad af that Fleck won’t be here. I know you can’t speak in absolutes but he’s about as absolute as you can get that he won’t be here. Thank God.

Not too far away with you on this, but Butch played football too...in high school and college.

I like Napier too. I never buy into to the southern recruiting ties stuff. It’s been proven time and time again that it’s not needed. Urban meter, James Franklin, Dan Mullen, nick saban etc.

I’m not saying it can’t help but i definitely don’t think it hurts if you don’t have them. It’s so easy to build clout being the coach at Tennessee.

Just as a side, Napier followed McElwain out to CSU and was QB coach and AHC his first season there till Saban brought him back to Bama to be WR coach.

It’s working to Phil’s plan. Hire someone that will fail in a few years to show we need a proven a head coach. Then pull a Barry alvarez and be head coach/AD

60 minutes did a segment on Minnesota cutting sports during Covid. Coaches of sports cut kept referring to football.

Fleck might want out of that toxic environment.

Not saying he would come here. Hell who would want to take a pay cut 😒

Winning is all that matters. If Butch won big, the slogans wouldn't matter. If Pruitt won big, the redneck Bama thing wouldn't matter. Dabo is corny as hell, and off putting to me personally, but if he was here and won like he has, we would eat it up.

Just win. I don't care what kind of personality the coach has, what their past or background is, or what they do in their spare time. Just win. So sick of losing and being an afterthought.

People were literally buying painted bricks to support butch. Lol

If we did hire fleck, even the biggest nay sayers would have custom engraved boat paddles by the spring game.
