If Healy takes that job, I think he's smart enough to know you get to a few bowl games then you get out. Don't linger like Mason did.

Will is a big UT fan - he's always had his eye on this job. Just not the right time. I think he's a superstar in the making.

All these UT fan coaches and we ended up with a Bammer. Makes sense.

No, I said exactly what I meant to say.

As did I. Though I cut an initial jab regarding you doing everything you could to bury the fact that you agree before I pushed send because it’s rather pointless to argue agreement no matter how badly you might want to defend ridiculous practices or claim the other person is ignorant. You might try that some time.

Right.
Inherent danger with chainsaws. Turns out increasing the actual chain rpm by a few thousand, via unstable angle grinders, has potential drawbacks.

@Bassmaster_Vol highly recommend sticking with the saws!😄
Keep a Stihl in the back of my truck. Use it all the time and what you posted is a deep long lasting fear I have. I’ll have nightmares for weeks now, thanks.

Athletics don’t have control of that

Hell, academics don’t have control of that. Pandemic year and literally every university panicking over budgets, and NO ONE dug into their endowment. It’s literally easier to fire tenure track faculty than it is to pull that endowment money.

It may be frustrating, but that is a good thing. Think of some of the real winners UT has had running the ship. Would you give them that power to sink the university’s endowment?

So I've always shared personal stuff for advisory purposes. Anyone wondering about kickback on the chainsaw blades for angle grinders..well, this is at UT and supposed to be my thigh.

*Don't open if squeamish*
GRAPHIC.

yes, there is kickback

sheesh man. Good luck with that.

Well sure. But the only thing we know for sure right now is upgrades for fan experience. So I’m focusing on LEDs and laser beams.
Not quite as exciting but we’re about to invest in some TNT dynamite to blow Neyland up and rebuild something scaled to Vandy at the rate we’re going.

Athletics don’t have control of that
No, they don’t. But let’s not cry poor when a pandemic hits and the athletic department needs bailed out.

The fact of the matter is UT - and colleges all over the country - are sitting on billions of dollars they refuse to touch and would rather let people be furloughed or fired. And let’s not even get started on the fact they have that much in reserves and continually raise the price of tuition for a declining product.

The TV deal money won't be payable until 2023-24.

People want to fire a coach now. This is 2020.

So people who can read and count on three fingers will realize that one does not depend on the other. It's possible to use different funds for different purposes, and UT actually has the financial acumen to do that.

Unrelated to the money topic: But you mentioned stadium upgrades. Are they still planning to follow the ones Currie had in place when he was here? Or are they going in a different direction?

But those only go off when the team scores so.. it’s probably better to put vomit bags underneath the seats.
Nah man, you can make your own rules with LED lights. We can use em during time outs, turn overs, pick 6s, shut em all the way off after sacks so you don’t notice the QB picking himself up. The possibilities are endless.

The university does have the money. Through all the investments they have made. “If they really wanted to dig in and pull out money from those investments” but yes, the Universities “year to year” budget has had to deal with these shortfalls.

The actual amount of wealth UT has through their investments is overwhelming though and the school would never, ever, go under.

Like I have said-- countless times-- UT can source the money. And if UT wants to do that, it will. There are multiple ways to source money, and UT has numerous buckets. Randy Boyd can access them all. Of course, UT will never go under. It has both public funding and private endowments..

For sure although mason didn’t have a choice. Nobody wanted to take him away from vandy as HC. As DC people will be lined up

Then why was Pruitt allowed to blow 1+ mill on Brumbaugh 6 weeks ago?

That’s a sunk cost. It hasn’t been filled yet. What they would “blow” would be next year’s salary for the new person.

The University has a lot of money, but I’m guessing it’s more complicated than people think. It comes with restrictions because it’s a state funded school. Additionally, I have dealt with endowments on a much smaller scale. They usually come with restrictions or bylaws as well, so that a group doesn’t just spend a chunk in one spot and maintain its value.

At the end of the day, we do need to focus on paying the right people wherever the money comes from. People are always the first priority, and then the facilities can come. Just like any good business.
