Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

But you misinterpreted the true message. He wasn’t talking to the majority of the fan base. He was talking to the ones that criticize them directly which apparently IS you given that you admitted to telling him to F himself. @chattavol420

I never criticized him. Really the only player I’ve been critical of is Jg. And even him I’ve kinda taken it easy on. He’s not putting himself in. I always support the heck out of the kids. I have been critical of the coach staff for sure. But for one of these players that probably didn’t even know anything about the vols until a couple of years ago to tell me it’s “his team (not the fan’s) and that our opinion is meaningless...damn straight I said he can F off. And I’ll stand by that sentiment all day. Like I said...it’s all ours team.

Good for him, he has as much right to voice his opinions as we all do.
Also I don’t blame the players for any of what’s happened/happening. This is all the coaches and administrators. These kids do their best but there’s been countless times I’ve seen players look to the sidelines for a play and clearly just shake their head in disgust and put their head down and run the same play that hasn’t worked all game. They are just doing what they are told. It’s the coaches making the poor calls and the administration that does nothin to the horrible coaches that get all the blame from me.

Last week, several of you claimed that what we say here and in other fan forums make no difference, the recruits, players and coaches don't pay any attention to any of that.

Now, in this thread, with proof to the contrary courtesy of one of our lads, several of the same people are now saying, "screw him, he's a crybaby, who cares what he thinks anyway, he'll be gone soon, we fans are forever."

And that last bit is true: we fans are forever. And we will be sitting miserably on an ash heap 30 years from now, wondering when our program will be good again, accepting zero responsibility for having done our part to burn it down. Even though we're lighting matches and tossing them at our lads and coaches every single day.

Nah, none of what we do matters. Keep flamin' on.

It's just our football program.
Check yourself on that. He was responding to a direct tweet on Twitter. Had nothing to do with what is said on a fan forum.

You have always been supportive and that’s why it hit me differently. However you should’ve paid attention to what you were responding to. He wasn’t saying “all fans”. He was responding to ONE fan that was criticizing his team and context clues should told you that before reacting the way you did.

So I guess the coaches told him to bash all the fans, which is what he did.

I like what he said. People on here that criticize these players each week, he is talking to you.
My reply: that weight room , film room , uniform, class, books, doctors and trainers that treat , transportation to games etc. is NOT FREE! Somebody’s paying the bills.
The fans that buy tickets and watch the games on tv and buy merchandise are paying for you to be able to play!

I mean, I get what he’s saying BUT , I’ve been orange before the kid was born. Many of us fans are also alumni and contribute so these kids can have an opportunity to win. There is investment on both sides so yeah, I’d be careful to dismiss a “fan” or fanbase...it matters. Are we surprised by this comment, though? His coach has basically dismissed the fans.

It’s being overblown. Someone earlier said it best “we’re taking a small piece of what really happened and creating a big picture” . That’s what’s happening here. He wasn’t talking to ALL fans. He was responding to someone being critical of JG and chose his words wrong.

Well in that case; yes he chose his words very wrong. And as for jg he has been given much more chances than any player I have ever heard of. Most coaches, jg would not have seen the field the last two years, and yet he was honored, or should have felt honored to be the qb at Ut. for 4 years. I took it he meant no fans should have any say, that it is not our team. But I say it is everyones team who has supported the UT vols. It takes fans along with players and coaches to make a team. Players without fans have no team, fans without players have no team, but together we can all be pulling for UT, and all are a part of it. The successes as well as the failures.

Maybe that is where he got the idea to twitter the message.

Gatta take the good with the bad kid.

You can't love the passionate fans when they fill a 100,000 seat staduim in non COVID years and then get all in your feelings because those same passionate fans are upset at a bad product on the field.

These kids are too soft.

I didn't play ball at UT, but I did march in the band...and if I had engaged a fan or a group of fans in a public forum with the level of disrespect he did... I would have been dismissed from the program.....and that was how hard the BAND used to be at UT....less long the Football team.

If he isn't running, pushing, jumping and lifting until his position coach pukes........there......right there.....is the problem with this entire program.

What I Would say to young Mr Maurer:
Most Vol fans are fans of their team for life, not just four or five years.
Most support their team and school with their hard earned money and their time for life.
Most emotionally spend countless amounts of joys (and many heartbreaks) with the Vols for life.
As long as it it not done on a personal venomous nature, Vol fans indeed have the right to analyze and criticize the play of THEIR team.
All 22 year old kids have everything figured out.
The Vols were my team before that kid's daddy was born.

Get off social media Brian.... Let the fans get pissed.. They spend money and time to see yall perform and support.... Its called criticism and it comes with playing like trash... Keep working and getting better... Dont fold to social medial

Here's the thing I don't disagree with what BM said.... but he needed more tact.... tweeting @ or directly messaging a player personal attacks is out of bounds for fans......

Much like CJP, BM hasn't earned the right to run is mouth like that.....you win several Natties and are Top 10 for years. Say whatever the **** u want and no one cares.....until you earn it....probaly shouldn't have responded like that...

When a twenty year old kid is 100 times more mature than a large portion of the people posting on here, that's saying something.

Fine since it's not my team; I wont watch anymore. Should they start winning again and put that "blood, sweat and tears" to good use and make games interesting again, I may come back. As of right now, all these losses are doing is freeing up quite a bit of time on my Saturdays to do other things!

bye felicia

He needs to be dismissed from the team for this. He won’t be, and some on here will bash me for stating this, that’s fine. But, whether he was addressing a single tweet or a whole fan base really doesn’t matter. it’s time that these kids start getting an education. You wouldn’t be allowed to make a tweet like this if you worked for a business and that was one of your customers. College is designed,or was at one time, to prepare you for the real world. I say it’s time to fulfill that mission and dismiss one Mr Maurer from UT.

Bunch of “grown ass men” pearl clutching and riding a kids jock. He can say and think what he wants just like anyone else can. Give up those tickets, somebody will buy them.

Responding to what one fan said for the world to see is dumb....

This is a lose lose proposition. No one wins this argument and it certainly does change anything. Shut up, stay off Twitter and move on.

Overreact much do ya? 🙄

I agree he chose his words poorly but he was only defending JG and the rest of his teammates. Most UT fans don’t know how close they became.
