My concern is not about his coaching, not at all.I do think your concerns about him getting caught at Tennessee are valid. Personally, I think Tennessee is better at cheating than Ole Miss because of some unspoken systems we have in place. At least I hope so. Knowing what I know that transpired back in the 90s, the fact that we signed Bryce Brown, and seeing how well Pruitt has recruited despite no proven on-field success tells me that it goes on at Tennessee already.
As for what he's done at Liberty, for them to be 2-1 against the ACC is a big deal and they'd be 3-0 if NC State hadn't of blocked a game-winning FG. We're basically talking about a JUCO team beating ACC teams. That is a very significant accomplishment, IMO, up there with beating Saban 2 times while at Ole Miss.
That's entirely possible, but are we willing to pass on a proven coach who wants to be here for fear of what might happen? Or do we do what we think gives us the best chance to win and mitigate the risk by keeping a close eye on everything? I'd argue that even if we hire him and eventually get into trouble with the SEC/NCAA it's worth it if he brings life to the program. Ole Miss was dead before Freeze got there. You think they regret hiring him? Nope. They still love him in Oxford. My concern is not about his coaching, not at all.
My concern is this: the Vols hire Freeze. After several dismal seasons, a good recruiting class or two, things REALLY turn around. The SEC sees this...... and hmmmm...... they start getting pressure from other programs about Freeze because he's got history and while "The UT System" is good, Freeze is an easy target to zero in on.
Add to that the "Fulmer ratted out Bama" history and I think you've got the makings of some easy payback for Bama if Freeze is at UT.
Its not gonna take any success recruiting to get that attention. Hes gonna get that when he walks in the door. Thats what happens when you get caught. You no longer get the benefit. My concern is not about his coaching, not at all.

Only the dummies still love him in lil Miss, similar to those fans of TN petitioning for us to fire our coach and hire back Pearl. That's entirely possible, but are we willing to pass on a proven coach who wants to be here for fear of what might happen? You sound like someone who doesn't associate with many Ole Miss people. I live an hour from Oxford... they're glad they had him while they did, just hate that he got caught up in the mess he was caught up in. There's no hard feelings toward Freeze in Oxford. If it weren't for him, they'd still be hovering around 2-10, 3-7 like they were before he got there.Only the dummies still love him in lil Miss, similar to those fans of TN petitioning for us to fire our coach and hire back Pearl.
Lately the problem has been that no good/proven coach wanted to come to UT. They all turned UT down. Now finally a proven good coach comes along who, on most accounts, wants the job badly. And actually wants to be here. You couldnt come up with an easier path back to relevance. And that is exactly why it won’t happen. Because UT.It’s real simple either we either make a big time hire like Freeze or somebody else like him or this football program is dead forever.
