the question you have to ask is, is he the long term solution to get Tennessee back to being a respectable program? If you think he is, you have to give him time. Is this year anomaly given the pandemic? Or is it a indicator that it's a failed experiment? The start of last season gave me pause as to his ability to lead a program. He helped himself, in my eyes, by the way they finished last year. I don't think he survives past next season. I'm convinced the job is to big for him.Definitely not happy about the direction we're headed, but Fulmer wants stability in this program. And Pruitt has done some good things especially surrounding the culture of the football program. And recruiting has been well up to this point.
It's not easy to fire a coach 3 years into a job, especially since the program had been trending upward. The team still is not where it needs to be depth-wise, and holding many players due to tracing has affected their development. I think Pruitt and staff have managed that horribly, and the losing has spiraled out of control. Should he be fired for that as a first time head coach? Fulmer would like not to, and I think he may extend the leash on him until next year. Lose to Vandy and things may change.
You know what’s even more sad than that nonsense? If Fulmer actually fires Pruitt but passes on Freeze because his ego is in the way and hires Coach McGoogle and we’ll likely do this again in a few more years.
Not getting my hopes up but AV did say we’d be switching gears and going a different direction.. this could be itThe only reason to keep Pruitt would be if he could ransack the LSU transfers. Bj, Arik, Webb (I believe rumored to want out months ago), the DT that was rumored as well. Add the transfer from USC and that's the only thing that should save Pruitt. Then fire him halfway through next year so the new coach can have 2 years with those guys.
@ABINGDON VOL FANKirby being Kirby...nothing to do with homesickness
-HubbsWe are in week 9 of he season. They have been practicing for nearly 4 months. They have had two extra open dates. I think Covid was an issue early on for sure, but they won their first two games when they had practiced the least. I think their handling of the QB situation has hurt and I don't think they have developed defensively particularly in the back seven.
I’ve been right about Weinke for 2 yearsFulmer has been working on contracts for some coaches that are expiring. Tells you all you need to know about JP returning IMO.
Agree with Hubbs at this point.. Bass should get his wish on weinke....jay planning on staying and as of now friend may be back however there have been some flare ups between him and JP lately but we will see how that shakes out.
More to come on the assistant side...certainly think Chaney is in play as well.
I’m probably alone in this, but this is nowhere near the worst team in Tennessee history or even the last decade. We have short memories on how bad the last Dooley and Jones teams were.
Yes, I know about the double digit loss streak, but how many of those points came as direct result of one players (JG) mistakes and poor play?
This team is not great by any means and the coaching has been bad (really bad at times), but if another QB plays the bulk of the year this is a 6-7 win team IMO. And I think this team beats Dooley or Jones’ final teams by 2 TD’s.
I think you over emphasize how much you actually know.I really think people are so enamored with Freeze because they want to believe our athletic administrators are willing to go “over the top” to win. You all want proof that we’re willing to throw caution to the wind and try anything.
It’s my opinion that Freeze is not a sure enough winner to warrant that risk, but after the last 10 years, I emphasize with the thought process.
99 percent of these elite HS players today, do not know a damn thing about Fulmer or even care, they just know that coaches like Saban, Dabo, and Urban run the whole show and win.I’ve posted this once before, but I simply cannot fathom the fact that some of you want to oust Fulmer if it means hiring Hugh Freeze - just because you’ve bought a Jimmy Sexton special that he really cares about this job.
I know who cares about UT football. It’s the guy sitting in the AD chair. And I know if Fulmer is out, some pencil pushing, number crunching lifetime administrator will come in and cut the football support staff budget first thing. The only reason we got any of that done is because Fulmer has the cache to do it.
