People keep saying that there's an uncrossable line in the sand. The reality is, UT made a commitment and had a plan. Circumstances changed, very abruptly, and the season nosedived in totally unexpected fashion. A very small group will look at multiple factors over three years and make a decision to stick with the plan, with modifications, or go in a new direction. The ability to align key variables plays a role.

No matter what UT does, there will be people who wanted something else. No one is happy with how this season has played out... and no one could have predicted it. It has been supremely not fun for everyone, right down to the concessionaires and the many forced to take paycuts.
One of the benefits of having the main decision makers all on the same page is that they are judging by the same standards and are able to see the larger picture. If Pruitt still fits in that larger picture then he stays, but if he doesn't then he won't.

You can enjoy gump. I want him gone so we can get better as a team. Like I said, short term it's bad to lose, but we have muuuch more to gain with him gone. I'm playing 4d chess here.

Yes, assuming that our inept administration can make the right move after getting rid of Beldar. This, and you're debating chinese checker players.

It really wasn't that hard to see coming though. The win streak last year was garbage

I'm trying to talk my wife into cancelling Netflix and getting that bundle. Would you recommend it over Netflix?

***We've still got Dish (15 years) with DVR and the sports package. I've not missed any UT football games but I have missed the SEC+ basketball games, starting last year.
Definitely recommend YouTubeTV. We had the ESPN+ & Disney+ bundle, but got rid of it. If you don't have kids or like superhero movies, Disney isn't worth it, and ESPN+ almost never had anything I wanted to see on it. They've got some extra Big 12 programming, but it's mostly basketball and some non-revenue sports. There are lots of sports channels on YouTubeTV, I've had it for two seasons now and haven't missed a CFB game I wanted to see.

I think it's an exaggeration to say that the win streak last year was "garbage" - it was an indication that the team was improving because we were losing those types of games.

People wanted to see continued improvement this year, mostly in the form of at least being competitive with upper-level competition while still beating the Kentuckys/South Carolinas/etc. of the world. However, not only have we not improved this year, but we've gotten worse.

I agree it's very disappointing but I would take some issue with the collapse being unexpected. I don't think in a profession where multiple variables and contingencies must be anticipated this result should have been completely unexpected. There were breakdowns last year.

I'm not intending to unload on you or anything just very confused the program didn't see a repeat of last year as a possibility.

I am not sure "OOC scrubs" are guaranteed wins under the current staff. Even in the scenario you presented people would likely still be upset about a blowout loss to Kentucky. There is also the loss to a first year head coach at Arkansas.

I checked 247 recruiting rankings the other day and Tennessee has not finished lower then 25th in the rankings since at least 2010, did not check further. How many weeks have we been ranked in the top 25 since 2010? It sure does not seem like very many. That is kind of remarkable to me. Is it bad coaching? Bad evaluations? A mix? I just do not understand why we have such a difficult time fielding a competent team.

Bad QB play is a huge part in the past few years. JG not working out, BM's mental health set back, and HB not having a spring or fall camp to develop like a freshman QB normall does has had a big part of the problem. In modern football if you don't have a high quality QB you don't have S**T

I understand all that and agree with you, I'm just smart enough to know how this goes and how the talk around the program will act itself out.

"He can't survive if he loses to Vanderbilt" is someone, I'd probably guess the Associate ADs who talk to the media, making it clear that we're on the precipice of a move but need a serious push in that direction.

We might bring him back. At this point, that scenario is still the leader in the clubhouse. But no one can argue it's the right thing to do. It might be the easiest thing to do from a moral and financial perspective, but no one will say they're bringing him back because they still believe he is the guy.

So, if that's the case, and you and I, and anyone who follows this program closely, knows it is, I legitimately do not understand the decision to kick the can down the road - it's the wrong move and I won't support it.

Is the goal to run a winning program or is the goal to run a profitable enterprise that toes the line with success? Because we've had too much of the latter around here.

revisionist history. nobody saw this type of season coming. nobody.

everybody knew the key to the 20 season was going to be whether or not the QB would work out.

and once the off season went caput....that question remained unanswered until we saw how this season started to unfold....but no off season for our QB room was NOT what the Dr. ordered.

and it got worse with how things were managed by the staff.....and it didn't help that we had all the contact tracing issues over the summer, fall and during the season.....

i think pruitt has done a terrible job this year. but the results we have for this season are the sum of many parts, not just one thing.....

if you have Dish & SEC Network you should be able to just login to that via the ESPN app and get the Vols game.

Not sure I'd pick the bundle over Netflix... but it offers ESPN+, Disney+ & Hulu (with ads) for less than Netflix cost. So it may be better value, but I prefer the exclusives on Netflix.
Ok that's good advice.

I remember trying that now through the ESPN app last year. Our internet is through TDS telecom (local phone company) and they were not on the list of ESPN approved providers/partners. I'll see if that's changed.

Appreciate friend

Netflix is better, I have both.... That being said what're you doing about dish getting rid of CBS? How did you watch the Florida game Saturday?

Oh if you got DISH you can login to ESPN with the DISH account as your TV provider. I actually have to login to ESPN with YouTube as my TV provider as well.

Has there ever been an example where a coach walking on thin ice, completely overhauls his coaching staff, and it worked? I'm genuinely curious.
Dabo. went 9-5, first full year 1, 6-7 the next...they were ready to fire him after WVU scored 70 on them in the bowl game, after the 2011 season.

they were ready to boot his azz.....

went from Billy Napier to Chad Morris to Tony Elliot...on offense.

in 2012, they went from Kevin Steele, who gave up the 70 to WVU, to Venebles....and haven't looked back.

My plan is to snag a VHF/UHF antenna soon. Then I'll have all the over the air local channels with no issues (hopefully) and may be able to knock off another streaming service.

We pay for Philo (only one with MTV/Nickelodeon), Netflix, Disney+ Bundle, and Amazon Prime Streaming (comes with the Prime membership).

Nice thing about YouTube TV though is you can add 5 emails, so we technically aren't paying for it the MIL is she just added the wife's email address.

Closest thing is Dabo in his early days at Clemson, but his Clemson teams were never this bad.

Brian Kelly did a staff overhaul after their 2017 season where they went 4-8, and it worked, but he was coming off just a single bad season after a string of a bunch of good seasons. So not quite the same deal either.

I dont think anyone was expecting the amount of regression, but the win streak was hyped too much. It was a bunch of bad teams....and they were struggles. Those games were hard to watch for the most part. The Indiana, Missouri, and UK games were brutal...Vandy was too. We still didn't look good at all pulling those out.
