Guys in here keep saying "3-7", but if we had just kept our schedule before COVID beating USCjr, MIZZU, Vandy and then the three OOC scrubs, we would have had 6 wins and a bowl game. Not great but likely not prompting a termination at HC either.

I think this will be part of the University's thinking when they retain CJP.

Might have a point if the team wasn't total ass and we didn't lose to GSU and BYU last year. No guarantee we win the cupcake OOC games.

Even if you go full benefit of the doubt and give us the Mizzou win, you're still talking just 6 wins. It would still have been a regression from last season. And I'm not convinced that Charlotte early in the season would be a sure thing.

It wouldn't be.

Mizzou is 5-1 since Bazelak took over and averaging 32 ppg. They'd wreck us right now.

I’m saying the outcome of the vandy isn’t deciding Pruitt future next season.
If he wins 7 games he’s here another year

If we lose to vandy we might lose another recruit or two which would hurt 2-3 down the road
And I call false on that. Lose to Vandy and I think thats the straw that breaks the camels back this year.

You mean the OOC scrubs like Georgia state?

So assuming that we win those OOC games keeps CP? Starting to understand why we are in the mess we are in now. lol

Mizzou figured it out in year 1. Kiffin has Ole Miss playing well in year 1. Arky is a lot better than us in year 1. But we keep getting lied to and told he will figure it out next year. Our admin couldn't care less.

Drinkwitz under the radar is having a nice season there. First year head coach, dealt with COVID, had to face Alabama out of the box. Their loss to us early in the year was a bad loss, but they've gotten consistently better since then and found a QB. 2 of their 3 losses are to the SEC division winners.

They are a team that actually appears to be getting better in response to coaching, unlike our program.

I’m not keeping up with recruiting. I have to read enough just on this thread. Lol. If we are losing recruits, there is zero reason to keep Pruitt. We will only bury our program further down.

But the recruiting class has remained intact for the most part. If it was mass exodus like many have said I agree but that’s not true

On the ESPN app. I have SEC Network via YouTube and ESPN+ via Disney+ bundle...
I'm trying to talk my wife into cancelling Netflix and getting that bundle. Would you recommend it over Netflix?

***We've still got Dish (15 years) with DVR and the sports package. I've not missed any UT football games but I have missed the SEC+ basketball games, starting last year.

Vandy worst run defense in SEC (maybe better than Ole Miss). Run Gray 400 times and use Play Action. Hope we don't come out this week and decide to chunk it all over the lot.
Imo you start Maurer. Let him throw about 60 times. Let Banks play RB. All freshman along the OL. Ease up on the run defense. Pass defense - keep doing whatever we're doing.

I don't even think the Pruitt hire, at the time, was that bad of a deal. We had awful PR stuff, nobody wanted the job. Pruitt was regarded by a great Xs/Os guy who players loved. Mentorship with Phil to learn the CEO role while being intricately involved in the defense and hiring a solid OC.

But now, it's obvious to see he isn't working here and will never have success here. You know it's over. Just end it.
This

There was no good solution

So, here's a thing I've wondered, and I'm not sure I can describe it clearly, but I'll try.

We've heard a Vandy loss is a line in the sand - but what I can't suss out is if that's simply because Pruitt needs ANY win to prove there's still life in the program. Or, is it just a little brother thing? You can't lose to Vandy in Year 3 and get away with it.

I guess what I'm getting at: if the Vandy game is cancelled, and there's no likely win on the table anymore, does that guarantee Pruitt can't disappoint enough to be fired? Or does it take a win that would have saved him off the table?

People keep saying that there's an uncrossable line in the sand. The reality is, UT made a commitment and had a plan. Circumstances changed, very abruptly, and the season nosedived in totally unexpected fashion. A very small group will look at multiple factors over three years and make a decision to stick with the plan, with modifications, or go in a new direction. The ability to align key variables plays a role.

No matter what UT does, there will be people who wanted something else. No one is happy with how this season has played out... and no one could have predicted it. It has been supremely not fun for everyone, right down to the concessionaires and the many forced to take paycuts.

I am not sure "OOC scrubs" are guaranteed wins under the current staff. Even in the scenario you presented people would likely still be upset about a blowout loss to Kentucky. There is also the loss to a first year head coach at Arkansas.

I checked 247 recruiting rankings the other day and Tennessee has not finished lower then 25th in the rankings since at least 2010, did not check further. How many weeks have we been ranked in the top 25 since 2010? It sure does not seem like very many. That is kind of remarkable to me. Is it bad coaching? Bad evaluations? A mix? I just do not understand why we have such a difficult time fielding a competent team.

if you have Dish & SEC Network you should be able to just login to that via the ESPN app and get the Vols game.

Not sure I'd pick the bundle over Netflix... but it offers ESPN+, Disney+ & Hulu (with ads) for less than Netflix cost. So it may be better value, but I prefer the exclusives on Netflix.
