Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

You don’t have to worry about AD. Fulmer is the right guy because the majority of fans and rightfully so love him. He has upped our support staff and behind the scenes football program x10 already. In the long run and grand scheme of things that way more important than this particular season. Pruitt was a good hire at the time all things considered. He was worth taking a chance on. He just has proven time and time again he isn’t head coach material. Not yet anyway. Maybe this can be humbling for him like it was for kiffin post USC.

Despite what some in the media may say, our program with fulmer in charge and all the extra money we are pouring into football specifically makes this job far more appealing than it was when we began the last coaching search. (Which should’ve netted us Mullen, but curry left him off the hook).
I like Fulmer, I just dont see any scenario where him and Freeze are working together.

Can we also talk about how bad our Safeties and LBs (outside of TooToo) are..... it’s a complete joke that Crouch and Banks are even starting at LB.... also, Jaylen McCullough and Flowers are a joke. I’ll be happy when they are replaced.... because then maybe we will actually be able to cover the deepest man or not allow people to get behind us.....

You are safeties man..... you usually have one job..... don’t let anyone behind you.....
Once Pruitt gets his own guys in here and replaces all these guys it'll be better.

I agree with that but you and I know how political it is at this level. Randy Boyd and Phillip seem to be close that can be reassuring.

Fulmer loves TN football more than anyone on the planet. I’m sure what ever grudge he has against freeze (whether true or not) will be set aside if he thinks freeze can win.

Y’all are also big time under estimating how much Fulmer values his legacy. He loves to win, he loves the honors, and he loves the history. Him winning a title here as a coach and then leading this program to a national title in football would cement him as one of the greatest PEOPLE (not just coaches) in CFB history.

I just want to see Shrout with Brays TN offense. I think we could be fun to watch playing backyard football.
Gonna need to put Da’Rick Rogers, Justin Hunter, and Cordarelle Patterson out there to make that happen and I don’t see any of those on our roster. Heck, I don’t even see a Mychael Rivera.

Then let's ride

Pruitts demeanor at his presser was odd to me. If what @Kingston Vol said is true, it’s either he knows they CANT fire him or he is actually hoping they DO fire him. Extremely pompous and arrogant with no tact. I teach people how to communicate for a living. I’d be willing to coach him for a fair price.
He has been offered and encouraged to get all kids of PR help and he has refused.

Who’s calling offensive plays in garbage time? Against Ark HB moved the team into scoring position twice. Against Aub, he was 7/8 for 80-plus yds. Last night Shrout drove us down for two TDs. And I know the other teams are adjusting their defenses at that point, but our play calling looks so much different.
Pruitt thinks he can make us Bama 08 and run the ball all the time. He thinks his defense can hold teams to 17 or less of rested. As we have seen, no one is holding anyone to 17 unless you play the Vols. He is a terrible head coach and everyone is tired of him. I know Fulmer is mad but I’m not sure if it’s mad enough to fire him. This was his hire and he is a proud man. Doug Mathews is an idiot. We have money for new assistants but not Pruitt. Lol! Chaney and Ansley buy outs are outlandish and I bet both move on. And many more.... We will be paying millions in buyouts by adding new assistants and then millions more for new salaries and bigger buyouts for them. It’s such a short term fix for money issues for a long term larger net loss. This is part of the reason you don’t put a football coach at AD.

Okay, I had time to come off my high horse from last night - a good nights sleep and rewatched some plays.

Here is another awesome SBV take:

Both QBs are better than JG and not playing them early is on coaching. Wow.

HB does have a strange motion but the ball gets where it needs to go. He did a lot of good little things:

- got through progressions
- climbed the pocket
- hit receivers in stride
- ran when he needed to

He played well for a freshman - he was not helped by the OC or overall game plan.

Shrout also looked good. Better than I have seen in the past. Also on the coaches for not developing him and getting him reps. He has talent for sure.

However , not sure why he even played yesterday. That was a strange coaching move. Why do that!

Overall, we don’t have a QB - we have a roster full of undeveloped players. you have to stick with one not named JG and play him. Too late now I guess.

I blame the coaching - on every level!!!

I think Bailey is young enough you can coach that "wrist snap" out of him. It is wasted motion, which means wasted time. I think the concerns over his deep ball placement are misdiagnosed. That all seems like a lack of chemistry problem with receivers and just typical jitters leading him to sail passes long. I'd be more concerned if he were dropping ducks too short.

I'm so flustered with Weinke and all of the reps wasted on JG.

4-5 year rebuild is all crowd control. Our own fans make this job way harder than it is. On a normal year you have:

3 OOC Cupcake
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

That is 5 locked in wins virtually every year.

So then all you need to do to make a bowl game is beat one more out of:

P5 Non conference, Missouri, South Carolina, west draw (sometimes tough).

No one is asking any of our coaches past or present to come in and make the playoff. But for the love of all things holy can we please stop acting like it takes an act of god to make a bowl game here.

I thought all along that it was unreasonable to expect to get to Atlanta before year 5. But I did expect improvement, and to basically be beating anyone not named Florida, Bama, or Georgia by year 3. And I’m like you, .500 should have been the minimum this year, regardless of circumstances.

The SEC is an arms race, and if you ain’t moving forward, you are crawling backward. Time to give someone else a shot.

Unpopular opinion incoming...

We're not close to where I'd like us to be but, we're not as bad as I thought...at least from my in-person observation.

I haven't the faintest idea how we ended up where we are but, breaking in new coordinators, switching position coaches, and trying to get freshman players ready to play, in any year, is a tall task...but not having a Spring, 1/16th of a summer, and a limited fall increased the degree of difficulty to damn near impossible. Add in all the contact tracing, opt outs, and personal opinions that divide EVERYONE not just a team and...you get it.

I'm not making excuses. I expected a helluva lot more from JP and crew than this, but I've refrained from throwing in the towel on them.

Doesn't mean I that I would be against hiring a better candidate...just that that candidate better be guaranteed before we make a move. We can't afford another fubar'd coaching search.
This is the worst head coach in the history of our program and one of the worst seasons we have ever had. We can’t go much further. If we played Mizzou now that would be a loss. If SC doesn’t muff a punt, we are winless.

The deep ball misses don’t really bother me. You can teach someone how to throw that - either more air, more on the body and flat - all depending on the corner coverage.
