Let’s talk about a possible scenario that could happen. Let’s assume that Pruitt doesn’t get fired this year, and he doesn’t barring a loss to Vandy if that game is played. I think everyone would agree, if we step back and think rationally, that if we had decent QB play, at best we could be 6-1 right now and at worst 5-2. Let me say right off the bat, I’m not an idiot in spite of what Kingston says, I know there are plenty of other issues, but I still believe that is true that with better QB play our record is much better (I know it’s Pruitt’s fault he kept playing JG).
That being said, JG is gone next year. So is Weinke who couldn’t develop a hot dog if you gave him a wiener and a bun. Chaney likely becomes the QB coach, and he has a track record for developing QB’s.
Pruitt hires Bo Davis for the DL coach, and we have a lot of experience returning there as well as a lot of young talent which allows him to assist Nieds and Felton with developing the LB position. In spite of what we think of him as a HC, the guy knows how to coach defense.
We then have a full offseason with spring and fall camp to develop our players. That 2020 class was loaded and they’ll have their first offseason.
We’ve already established that QB play elevates the team, so in the fall of 2021 either Bailey or a transfer plays really well for us. There’s only 3 unwinnable games, and TN goes 8-4. This shows enough improvement for Pruitt to land that loaded class in 2022. They finish top 10 in the recruiting rankings with Simpson heading up that class.
We then go into 2022 with a Junior HB, a Rfr Salter, freshman HB, that loaded 20’ class as juniors more hopeful than we are now. Maybe by then Pruitt has learned and is doing a better job. HB then hands the reins to Salter or Simpson who elevates the program even more
I’m not saying this happens, I’m not saying that I believe that it happens, but this is a possible scenario.
