The CARES act allowed a deduction of up to 100% of a taxpayer's adjusted gross income for monetary charitable donations made in 2020. For 2021, it drops back to a limit of 60% of adjusted gross income. Thanks for keeping us updated. Do you have any idea which tax benefits would expire in 2020? Is there a significant change coming in 2021 tax law?
The offer is on the table until Dec. 15. The date was chosen as the majority of group feels the money would be best used elsewhere if no changes were being made. Not sure if it will go to the academic side of UT, or somewhere else all together. The information I got that the offer was going to pulled was incorrect, just one of the folks that is in this group got mad about something and told some people this. And the offer didn't "demand" anything, just was made as an offer to help the UT football program (in their opinion). Apparently a few of these folks came up with this idea after the Kentucky game and a drunk Zoom call.I hope the deadline can be extended. I think Phil wants to do the right thing but he is torn about the recruiting class. If the 20 can spot him until the day after early signing day, it could make all the difference.
People with that kind of money demand a lot of things. Whether it is right or not is up to individual opinion. Personally I would not like someone trying to dictate my business. It’s possible “20 outside donors” put the money together in a one time thing. “Possible”. Getting a no response from the UTAD seems HIGHLY believable though. It’s kind of funny to think this group of 20 thinks they can start demanding things with such a time stamp. Actually, it’s really funny. What a great caveat too
It’s one thing to make requests, or offers. It’s another to put the demand out there with what 72 hours notice to accept with the caveat of only 3 potential coaches? I mean not only is it ridiculous because they are trying to dictate ALL the rules, but it’s essentially impossible unless those three coaches are Urban, Bob, and some other currently not coaching coach that could actually leave in that timeframe. What would’ve happened if Phil somehow took them up on this offer but then couldn’t deliver one of the three mandatory coaches? The whole concept is almost impossible to pull off, which is why I don’t really believe it honestly. You really could have been fed this information, I don’t know, and I’m not trying to discredit you straight up, but the logistics of this are just too asinine to pull off.People with that kind of money demand a lot of things. That's partly why people sign MOUs and agreements in principle. Allows you to be 'sorta pregnant'.It’s one thing to make requests, or offers. I don't really care if you believe me or not, that's up to you. It's not some rumor I was told, I was privy to several conversations that took place about the offer and I personally know about half of the folks that put up the money. And to think that folks that are putting up north of 14 million dollars aren't expecting a return is ludicrous. So yes, when people put up money for certain things, they expect certain results, business (which UT football is) is not a charity. The 3 coaches they mentioned have already been vetted behind the scenes and all have ties to the state of Tennessee. 2 of them folks would have questions about, 1 they would not, they are all successful head coaches at the moment and in the top 25 in the polls. For all of them Tennessee would be a destination place and a dream job. Don't mean to sound snarky, I was told I could release some information, just not all of it. They all know how the UT fanbase is wanting to go back to our proper place in the SEC and national rankings, and they want that as well. It’s one thing to make requests, or offers.
