I still think Chaney needs elite talent to win in the SEC and without it he is very pedestrian. If we want him to work out here he needs more to work with. That starts with a 5-star OL that actually plays like one and a QB that is at least competent enough to not score for the other team.

That's true of every OC in the SEC.

Chaney had top talent at OL in his previous UT stop. He had a top passer with a 10 cent brain in Bray. He had pedestrian RB's. Yet, he put up 35 points a game when that was big time stuff in the SEC. He hasn't forgotten how to do that. He proved it a different way at Arky and yet another way at UGA, which included RPO's. People forget he was the OC for UGA that had Bama on the ropes in the NC game just a few years ago. He also had Pittman recruiting and developing real O-linemen. Now he's got Friend.

It's the QB and HC. Always has been since Jeremy arrived. He didn't get a quality QB recruit to the hill until this season - then he didn't allow him to take control. So nearly 3 seasons in they are having to break in the one QB they have against UF. Great.

You know what’s really going to piss me off? When Bailey does very well to finish the season and knowing that if he played all year, like he should have, we’d have 2-3 more wins and everyone would love Pruitt.

And I don’t want to hear this crap about he wasn’t ready, blah blah blah, he was better and more ready than JG the moment he arrived in Knoxville. Period.
Drop Mic.

Pretty interesting article from ESPN on the lack of black head coaches in college football. You should read it, but the reason I bring it here is there are some applicable things about what it takes to be a head coach, and the hiring process.

It also explains what's happening with Pruitt.

"As an athletic director, you've got to be an idiot to hire a coordinator that's never been a head coach if you can do anything other than that at all," Bowlsby said. "The number of things you have to learn as a head coach, the list is as long as your arm."
Here's Shaw, who has long arms:
"A head-coaching job has something to do with football, but everything else takes much more of your time: managing people, dealing with alumni, dealing with athletic directors and presidents and provosts and other on-campus personnel, setting schedules, handling difficult situations, handling your team individually and collectively.
"You can be a great X's and O's coach and lose your team because you made a couple of bad decisions. It's like showing you can climb a ladder and then trying to climb a mountain."
The difference between being an assistant coach and being a head coach is greater now than it was a generation ago. Programs have more moving parts. There are on-field coaches, off-field analysts and recruiting operations that have made marketing as vital as talent evaluation.

I will start by saying most of this is my opinion based off things I’ve read and also heard from someone I trust. Things are always fluid (most don’t get this part).

Pruitt- This decision will not come down to money. It comes down to does UT administration believe Pruitt can win in the future. They have a plan in place if they decide to move on. Fulmer did not state last night that Pruitt would return. He was very careful in how he used his words. If a change is made it will come from above Fulmer. I do believe Fulmer will head the next hire if it is this year. I ultimately believe Pruitt is back. Fulmer is fighting for him but also will not back himself into a corner

If Pruitt returns..
OC- Chaney will remain
QB- I believe a move will be made here.
RB- Jay Graham
WR- Tee will return unless he gets a OC or HC opportunity.
TE- Joe Osovet
OL- I do not think Friend gets a new contract.
DL- I think Pruitt will go after Bo Davis hard.
LB- Neidermeyer
OLB- I think a change could be made here.
DC/DB- Ansley unless he gets a HC opportunity.

Obviously this is a very fluid situation and a big reason I remain adamant about letting the season play out. No hard decisions have been made. I could see a scenario where Mason or Muschamp is added. Both would come cheap right now with their buyouts at their last stops. We have seen Pruitt demote his DC before. If Osovet moves on his own then I think Neids could possibly move back to offense but the plan is for him to stay on defense. Depending on what is available will depend on what happens with QB coach and adding an extra defensive coach. Chaney prefers not coaching a position. A couple of coaches could move on their own.
That’s always a possibility.
Edit: Osovet could be moved to QBs if Neids is moved to TE. He could if they like their TE options better than QB options.

I still think Vandy will hire the Notre Dame DC.

O'Brien is a good coach, but he couldnt even get along with JJ Watt. He destroyed a good roster with his decisions.

"To summarize, hire Tee." -Kingston

Changing assistants is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Pruitt ain't gonna get it done. We've seen this play out twice in the past decade. Fulmer and the admins need to remove their heads from the sand and get a dose of reality. It's okay that Pruitt was a bad hire. It was an 11th hour decision. Fulmer gets a mulligan and it's not too late to land a solid coach for 2021 if he pulls the plug Monday morning.

stopped reading at “they have a plan in place”

Soon we'll hear that Sidney Powell is about to unleash the Kraken in Knoxville and it will prove all our rivals cheated Pruitt out of wins and he's actually 7-0. The covering for him is getting conspiracy theory, tin foil hat-esque at this point.

Latest update on usc247 coaching search...Napier picking up steam and will interview this weekend. Beamer still the front runner. If it goes beyond those two a new name is Brian Johnson, UF OC.
