Why dont fans support this program no matter how bad the times get?

I didn't read the whole thread. My perspective is that fans have a couple of levels of committiment, but more importantly, several levels of disappointment. There are some die-hard fans that are highly critical, because the VOLS admin seems to shot itself in the foot, then reload. There are die-hard fans that will walk of the cliff for the current path because it is progress from the past. There are die-hard fans that take hammer the continual poor performance and disappointments. However, they are still fans

Dad-ism: when you care more about the outcome that the person responsible, you will be disappointed!

There are definitely sub groups to each side. I am a realist but look for the good instead beating dead horses ad nausea. I spent a lot of time, money, cheers, and tears on the Vols and football in general. I know a little and baby I’ll guess the rest.
The other obvious group I didn't discuss is those who latch on to a player or coach and start to idolize them or make them the personification of the whole program. You see that with k-town and Pulaski concerning JG. An "attack" on JG alone makes you an "enemy of Voldom".

I simply wanted better QB play and was pretty well convinced from the last 3 years that it would not come from JG. That put those two guys on the warpath. There were even more like that concerning Jones though maybe not quite is "devoted".

Another backhanded 5th grade you're just ignorant quote, haven't heard that one to my face since middle school. Must be easy to do when nobody knows who you are.
You can dish it out...but you don't take it very well do you. These fan deserve better. UT has every asset to be a great football program year in and year out...except this university lacks leadership. What I see is a non-competitive team, which quits when adversity happens, and an unqualified HC who has terrible leadership skills. If you enjoy seeing the team you support and pull for being non-competitive, have at it.

That's not true to how I feel. It's not hard to spot the negative Nancies and you're one of the ring leaders. I don't have a problem with criticism, whether aimed at the Vols or me, it's the garbage negative hyperbole that you an those like you continue to spew. Funny thing is I agree with you more often than not about our team but once you started calling me a liar and a coward that ended any chance of me respecting you or your opinion as I'm 100 pct sure that you would not say that to my face unless you were just trying to provoke a fight, something you do behind your keyboard through anonymity every single day on this forum.
Negative Nancys would complain about a 9 win season. We're talking about a 5 game losing streak all by double digits and 2 of those losses came to Kentucky/ Arkansas one has a new coach the other doesn't have a QB that could play dead in a western.

I'm only antagonizing you at the moment and I think I'm doing a half way decent job of it...

I've been here for almost 12 yrs now and have seen many come and go. I think I've got a pretty good grip on who might be a nega. I don't always agree with sj18 but he's NOT a nega and if you are familiar with my history you'd know I'm not either...

It seems to me that anyone that disagrees with you is considered a nega... Especially anyone that criticizes JG....

You take this stuff WAY to seriously....
Once again not true to how I think at all, it's not hard to tell who the NegaVols are just like it's not that hard to tell that you like picking at posters on this forum, problem is that you're thin skinned and don't like it when called out over it.

I got jumped on in the recruiting forum for criticizing Pruitt and the coaching staff.

Why is it when someone doesn’t agree with Pruitt’s decisions, we’re labeled as Negavols? Is it because we’re not making excuses for his failures?

The Administration has become a circus when it comes to hiring good coaches. Pruitt is no different from Dooley & Butch. They’re all way in over their heads.

Do you think it’s ok to get embarrassed by Kentucky and Arkansas? Do you think it’s ok for Pruitt to continue trotting JG out onto the field week after week? Why does Pruitt continue to get worse his third year on the job?

Whether you want to accept reality or not, that’s your choice.

It’s a damn shame we have these kind of threads that pop up every now & then, just because we don’t agree with the “Sunshine Pumpers”.

Good God! Because we want to WIN, we aren't really fans. We ARE truly the dumbest fanbase in the country.

WTF are you talking about? UT has the most loyal fanbase in college football. 90k plus still pack the stadium after 12 years of suck, you see people wearing swag all over the world and the most telling sign of how great this fanbase is is that we still care. We still care after the administration has shown they DGAF about championship level football, we still care even though there is no sign of hope for better days, we still care even though we KNOW a POS Gump will still be driving our beloved football program off the cliff next season.

GTF out of here with this "fair weather fan" bull! Few fan bases remain as loyal and caring as ours after over a decade of being fed crap.
Bingo

I was gonna say the same thing but with a lot fewer words and not quite as eloquently as you put it, something along the lines of GTFO.
GBO!!

Says the guy calling everyone a negavol and CRYING to high heaven about it.....

Goodness gracious boy, take a chill pill...

I am an alumnus, I have a tattoo, and I named my youngest daughter Neyland. I am allowed to be disappointed that we suck.

Edited to add: I live in TX and drive a TN orange jeep with a custom "VOL" tag number. I am "the Tennessee guy". Which has been a study in humility for the past decade or so.

Why do you feel entitled and that you deserve a better team to pull for? Unless you're a big time money donor they could care less what you think you deserve. Football is simply an activity for students that produces income for the University and unless UT goes belly up I'm betting that they continue the tradition of fielding a team regardless of what you and those like you feel you are entitled to.

Regardless of how fans feel about the program the negative stain the NegaVols have put on the program is not going to rub off just because we keep throwing millions every 4 years at the problem. You guys act like it's an easy fix and it's simply not. We've tried to hire some big names since Fulmer and we've not had any success getting them. I don't understand why fans think that we just open up the checkbook that great coaches will come a calling. We've been idiots with our coach searches and the instability within the program and the fickle crying immature portion of our fanbase is not helping to attract any big names that would come here for the type of useless punishment the NegaVols like to dish out.

This is where you're position starts losing credibility. The fans didn't do this to the football program. Also, the fans aren't scaring big name coaches away from the program. That dog just won't hunt.

Only called about 10 of them NegaVols but if the shoe fits then wear it. Your little game of having fun picking on folks on here doesn't work with everyone.

Depends on if you were one of the ones doing the same complaining every day 12 years ago that got us into this situation. The NegaVols all claimed that all we had to do was get rid of Fulmer and move on that it would be easy to get a great coach here. How well did that work then, about the same way all the moaning and groaning is doing now I'd say.
I didn't want to can Fulmer at the time, but in all fairness no one could have predicted the TN AD would bargain bin shop 4 times in a row.

Make up your mind.. If none of it matters, then why are you so upset about others opinions...

Ridiculous to think that anyone accepts and wants to stay mediocre and I doubt there is a single fan on here that feels that way. I've never heard a single person on here claim that so I call BS on you saying it's happening.

Well, the OPs sentiment suggests just that.

So do you actually support Jeremy Pruitt?
Do you believe he can and will turn things around. If so why?

Because you say so? Coaches are not interested in going somewhere just to get crapped on by an over zealous fanbase and to get 2nd guessed on by the Volunteer Couch Coaching Association over every little move. Rat poison was probably the correct term for it.

This fan base has been abused and beaten to a pulp, I’m surprised UT can still fill the stadium* after the last 2 decades

*until covid of course

Fair point. Why do some feel like they're better fans because they don't get upset?
Assuming you're aiming that at me, I've never felt I was better than anyone, for any reason..

I'm a Vol fan that comes here for occasional recruiting info and entertainment. I pick and poke fun usually in good nature and opine occasionally.

At this point, it's just about impossible to call anybody that's still a Tennessee football fan a negaVol.
What do you call “fans” who actively root for their team to lose? Like some of these guys would be mad if Tennessee pulled the upset on Saturday.
