I think what makes Saban, Saban is what we see in the media interviews.

Effective leaders are concise and to the point. If you know what you want that's one thing, but if you know what you want and can articulate it simply and clearly to others then everyone knows what you want. With Saban I think he's a master at this, I think Dabo is likely very good at it too.

So regardless of one is on their staff they are very clear with what they expect from them in whatever job they have. It's not micro-managing because you know from day 1 what your job is supposed to be. Ineffective leaders simply don't do this and often find themselves feeling frustrated and overworked from basically micro-managing because they aren't efficient at communicating.
the difference between Saban and err'body else virtually is they all talk the same talk and say the same things about "process" and "standards".

he actually executes them, consistently....even when it's hard, or not popular. it all sounds cliche, cause it is. unless you actually operate by those standards.

and i think it's relatively clear that he does, and he expects those around him to do so as well. if you don't, then....there's accountability.

Reminds me of my 6 year old.
It’s still great to sit back n watch for the most part but it expends a lot of energy. Scary to think of what could be accomplished if some would apply to their lives the amount of mental gymnastics we go through talking about something that is clearly not happening right now. Lol

It's affecting EEs, too. Between that and extending eligibility, roster management and spring sports are going to be interesting.
Ohh that's interesting. Hadn't thought about that. I get they usually need guys graduating/leaving for the midyear replacement rule to make room for EEs. With the seniors not counting toward next year, the numbers shouldn't matter, but I guess that doesn't start till the Fall. If it doesn't apply this Spring, the squeeze is going to be interesting.

@butchna see, the movement is growing 😏
Very productive...movement.

So John Brice was on 1045 in Nashville today.

Two things of interest:
We know Herman is out at Texas, but he said he'd be stunned if Meyer took that job. He said watch Hugh Freeze here if they don't get Meyer.

When asked about Jeremy Pruitt's job status, "everything is on the table."
Wasn't Brice on the "they flew to Tampa today and offered Gruden a contract" train in 2017?

I’ve never seen a group of grown(ish) men band together collectively to pine over something that just isn’t gonna happen. Lol
Following this dumpster fire of a program that we care so deeply about has finally broken many of us. The idea of a new HC is the only thing to look forward to anymore. At least that brings hope. Nothing else about the program is hopeful.

If we miss on Freeze, I’m totally fine with it as long as he’s not in the SEC.

If I were Fulmer, I’d be on the phone with Sarkisian or Marrone right now.

Let me clarify, Phil will publicly back and commit to Pruitt after the UF game.
"Well I know we just got the snot knocked out of us. I thought Jeremy called a great game. It sounded like a good idea making the Gators believe HB was to start and then pulling the rug out at the last minute to make them face JG. Well it wasn't and Jeremy will learn from this and I am certain by next season he will have JG squared away . Now let's get after those A&M boys and Commodores! No questions thank you."

If I remember correctly, you're right about the first part but the second is kind of wishy-washy.

During the Grudenmania, I believe he did report that Currie flew down to Tampa and I think he (and we) assumed it was for Gruden. Turns out, Currie was leaking that stuff intentionally and that he flew down to Tampa to talk to the Bucs about Schiano's time there.

Much like Butch in 2017, this conversation will start up again after our first loss if they retain Pruitt.

Yep. If they were smart they’d pull the plug now and restore some hope and faith. Everyone knows Pruitt won’t work out, even he does. That first loss next fall will ignite the hot seat talk x1000.

Texas should just have a pipeline built to Southlake Carroll and they would be perennial top ten.
That program’s like Highland Park tho. Not much in elite physical talent save for the occasional quarterback. More the result of being the big public school with endowments and the same systems running from pee wee to the high school. Some of their biggest stars have played on JV waiting for their spot...like Chase Daniel who played WR waiting for Chase Wasson to graduate.

It's hard to believe, but Pruitt is far less liked than Butch was at this stage. Even if I've seen some folks argue he should get another year, I've not heard anyone really suggest they like the guy or think it's going to work out.

I think a combination of the raise and extension plus *his* assistants not taking pay cuts have really done him in - not to mention his generally prickly attitude, both publicly and behind the scenes.

None. Big 12 and Ohio State make up the majority of his major college resume. Wouldn't matter though. He would win at Tennessee.
Yup SEC ties are overrated. Urban came here from Utah. Saban came here from Mich St, Miles from OK St, Chizik did have a whopping 3 years before 15 years elsewhere, and Oregeron has the most prior experience with 4 total years prior to LSU.

Those are the last 5 national champions in the SEC. Good coaches coach. Not that there's anything wrong with having prior experience, but it shouldn't be a qualifying factor by any means.
