The Gruden saga had some legs the first time after Dooley. There are people not connected to the school that can confirm that.

I can’t believe Currie used the Gruden rumors as a smokescreen the second time. Disaster.

This all day. Volquest is probably closest to the program, but they have to toe the line. Think about it, is Fulmer really going to tell anybody if he plans on making a change at the end of the year? Everybody is guessing based on circumstances.

I'm no fan of Butch or Pruitt. I've said many times I think Pruitt is the wrong guy. No excuses from me-- I'd cut my losses and fire Pruitt, and I'd have fired Butch and Dooley both long before it happened.

You were all over Freeze for OC last year. You and I went around and around about it. Sankey didn't want Freeze back in the SEC and it was a no-go with Fulmer, but you went on and on that he was Pruitt's guy and UT was working it out. It was always a non-starter. Carry on.

I think Bailey is a better qb than Salter.

Edit: FWIW, the logical extension of my post above about the economics behind developing qbs/specialty plays would say that they’re probably the exception to the rule. You go get them where you can.

Right now, certainly. Counter to the earlier point about Texas HS players peaking, I feel it is more likely Bailey was closer to peaking coming out of HS. He was identified extremely early and was followed by everyone as early as middle school. Yet his stock sort of flattened out over time and I'm not entirely sure how much more one can develop arm strength or maneuverability.

Salter is crazy raw and has the dynamics to be one of those twitchy off kilter new type of QBs that can throw at different angles, extend plays a ton, but also has a cannon to threaten the defense vertically. He needs tons of polishing.

All in all - love both. Now we just need a real offensive mind to lead the QB room.

Money is the killer right now. Gun to my head I think he returns barring a Vandy loss. Then get ducks set in a row for next year. No assistant gets extension and anyone you bring in can’t get a 2 year deal.

Issue is fan apathy. That speaks louder than boosters. I be we won’t have 10K at games remaining. How do season ticket holders come next year? Fans are out on him. That’s the final nail in the coffin. It’s just how quick does this ship sink. Vandy being delayed is bad for Pruitt.

I didn’t renew this year and declined their appeal to buy next years tickets.

That's awful news, because this current staff isn't the one to do the polishing.

I will say this about Herman. Dude has underachieved at Texas, but he doesn't get blown out. His worst loss was a 24-7 loss to TCU in his first year.

Very interesting point actually. Just looked and he was +281 points after 3 years. Again, Dabo was about +290 at the same point. CBJ was like +190, Dooley +4, Pruitt -108 and tumbling further.

Like you said, he's appears to be losing some close games which is far more up to variance (luck) than most fans care to admit.

He has 3 losses this year by a grand total of 13 points. Predictive-wise, this is a good sign for next year actually for a 5-3 team.
