The Case for Keeping Pruitt

Since when is your recruiting class literally being in the middle of the SEC rankings indicative of "top quality SEC in the trench players"?

When have we seen 'top quality SEC in the trench play' from a Pruitt-coached team?
What is you metric for putting UT in the middle of the pack? And far as on the field, one did you watch our o-line destroy Auburn’s front 7? Two, CJP’s recruits are Fr. and Soph.’s and you just starting to see them hit the field.

Basic reading comprehension? There's no on-the-field evidence at this point to say that the recruiting rankings for Pruitt's classes were too low, in fact there's an argument to be made that they might have been too high given the lack of development.

As to on the field, you cite one game where our o-line didn't overtly suck, vs how many other examples do we have of 5 highly ranked individuals play like utter garbage as a unit?

If we were recruiting that well, we wouldn't be in the midst of a five game losing streak all of which came by double digits.

Football comprehension? There is on the field evidence but as most fans all you see is the ball and the scoreboard. I have watched in depth film on every game and we have played well in most aspects of the game with young players, albeit inconsistent at times but well.
Case in point, you say the o-line has been garbage all year. This is proof that your clueless, the o-line has played well and been dominant a great deal of the time. Here is an example, the Kentucky game. All you saw was an embarrassing loss. The fact is we totally pushed them around and if not for a basket of catastrophic turnovers we win going away.

All our best talent is Fr. and Soph.’s. If you want to read a really short book it’s titled, “Teams That Have Won in the SEC With Freshman and Sophomores.”

Magical football intangibles that only those with the elite true fan eye can see, that don't actually impact the play of the team in a way that leads to the ultimate goal of winning more football games? Brilliant.

You are absolutely delusional with coach-worship at this point. I'll agree that there is some young talent on this team, but it is being wasted by a wholly inept coaching staff who cannot adequately develop it, and in no way can you characterize the play that we've seen this season as "well in most aspects".

So you’re saying we played UK like we are supposed to and expected to yet still lost by double digits and that’s improvement?

Are you a coach? Have you ever coached? I don’t worship any coach but I know what I’m looking at. When ever a person holds strong opinions about things they really don’t understand they often end up looking foolish. You are like a blind guy passing judgement on a Picasso.

Ah yes, the attempt at an 'appeal to authority' logical fallacy; the last stronghold of a truly bankrupt argument.

4 turnovers, 2 pick-sixes, one in the endzone. Fact is we pushed them around.

You really can’t answer with anything tangible, can you? You know nothing about coaching but you say men who are making a fabulous living and have won National Championships are complete idiots. To anyone with half a clue you look like fool.

Pruitt has been quick to address problems

1) JG...not too quick here
2) STILL CANNOT DEFEND A SLANT PASS
3) Every halftime one team makes adjustments...the other team is Tenn
4) Missing tackles and opposing RB's are still making 1-3 YAC
5) Our field goal kicker has regressed miserably
6) JG
7) Discipline has cost us plenty of yards from stupid penalties
8) No pulse found on our sidelines
9) JG

When does UT win with CJP? That is the big question. He is not making a good case for himself that he can compete in this league. He could turn it around next year but the chances of that do not look promising based on what we have seen. The numbers show we are not good. We did push UK around some with our running game, but they pushed us around a whole lot more. Our defensive front seven was completely overpowered by UK’s o line.

The two things that need to improve are defensive line and quarterback play. If the d-line can generate pressure with out blitzes and keep the lbs clean, all of the defensive issues go away. The qb issue is well documented and the remedy will start this week. To me it is not as dark as it appears.

What question did you ask? I'm not the one pretending that this team has magical intangibles that only myself and Jeremy Pruitt are capable of seeing.

I judge Pruitt like every other person, besides yourself, watching UT football, by the product that he puts on the field every Saturday.

Unfortunately the reality of that product is far divorced from the fantasy intangibles that you've dreamed up as your own personal evaluation metric.

DB play has been poor too. Busted coverages all year and we cannot defend slants over the middle of the field. Several issues have to be corrected.

Yes, I have. Yes, I currently do. I can assure I could coach as well as Pruitt has to this point as could just about any decently successful high school or small college coach. What does he bring to the table as a head coach? He has made terrible personnel issues when it comes to the most important position on the field. It's not as if we are fielding the "steel curtain" as a defensive unit and our offense has ranked nearly dead last in the SEC the last two seasons. He has zero experience as a head coach at any level to look to as a harbinger of future successes. Being around successful coaches doesn't impart wisdom through osmosis.

The problem of slants and most of the secondary issues are a consequence of poor d-line play. Allowing o-line to get to the second level in the run game and no pressure in the passing game causes lbs to bite hard on play action, they are blocked by linemen in the run game, and dbs are left man to man too much because we are forced to blitz.
