FSU's highest rated commit just decommitted. 4* QB from Mississippi. Probably headed to Ole Miss.
Brought this over from FF:
BTW it's Phil's fault UT would owe Pruitt 12 million, it would have been around 5 without that stupid extension and raise. That right there is enough for UT to tell Fulmer's fat ass to kick rocks
Does it have to do with his time at Briarcrest? Not specifically Oher, but just in general? Or just his notoriety overall?
The problem is so many defensive coaches still want to be typical DCs and marginalize the offense. We don’t need an offensive minded coach, we need a leader. There’s about 50+ innovative offensive coaches on staffs scattered around the country who you can bring in and scheme up offense.
We need a head coach who can run & control the entire program, create and cultivate relationships and hold players and coaches accountable.
we haven’t had one that can do all three in over 20 years.
Yeah I can agree. Only a few coaches would immediately lead to sellouts upon hiring. Urban, Freeze (maybe), those type of guys. From the quote you provided:
UT averaged 74,000 people actually in the stands per game last season. That's 28,000 empty seats. Add up ticket cost, concessions etc for those seats and you're looking roughly 10-12 million in lost revenue each season. Add that up for two or three seasons and it dwarfs the buyouts.
So the "can we afford to keep him" argument is legit. It was a major factor in South Carolina firing Muschamp early too. They feared he would cost them more than his buyout.
I mean, sounds good in theory but kind of false math. It’s assuming whatever new hire would automatically lead to sell outs. Highly doubtful. What has the yearly average attendance been the past 5 or so years?
Pruitt isn’t the reason we had 28k empty seats a game last year. It’s the teams perpetual dysfunction the past 13 years that led to it. And hiring a Napier or McGoogle isn’t going to lead to sell outs.

It will get worse if UT continues to suck. Kids are not going to grow up pulling for them. A team that continually underperforms and claims they were college football royalty. The younger generations haven't seen evidence of that.Exactly!!! It is going to cost more keeping Pruitt and paying out even more assistants buy outs next year than canning him now and hiring a proven coach. Neyland will be half full and they will lose much more than Pruitts buyout. Plus it is paid out over five years.
