I agree in the abstract - if I were running the search I've said I would prioritize head coaching experience - and that each candidate had experience winning a conference championship as a head coach.

But I guess what I'm getting at is what I would do and what I would want, I think, are going to be totally different from how this plays out.

I expect this job to come open this year. And I expect it will garner a similar interest from prospective coaches as it has in the past.

These are not the specific names, but a similar mold and quality of candidate as: Charlie Strong, Butch Jones, Greg Schiano, Jeff Brohm, Dave Doeren, Jeremy Pruitt, Mel Tucker, etc.

I think this job is more stable than it was 3 years ago, but that may not reflect in the coaching pool.

I fully expect the VQ Hotboard 1.0 to look something like:
Freeze
Napier
Chadwell
Tee
Candle
Healy
Elliot

Tee? You still pushing Tee? Do you owe him money or something? LOL

Given Vandy's talent level, a gimmick offense might really be what they need. Something defenses only see once a year and aren't used to facing, I could see that being to their benefit. It's worked for the service academies, and for a number of years at GA Tech. Not to the point of high success, but enough to be considered somewhat mediocre and pull off the occasional upset.

CJP tried this same tactic by playing JG. Hoping an undeveloped qb was a gimmick that the opposing defenses only saw once a year and weren’t used to facing would bring positive results to the Vols. Mission accomplished: We did not achieve high success and definitely think CJP is mediocre and more than occasionally are upset with the product on the field.

Good chance the OC will coach QBs next year. Pruitt wants to add another defensive coach.

You might want to remind all these folks that Freeze is not coming, nor any other coach because our inept Admin/AD is gonna let Pruitt have another year to tear down the program.

Anybody know what the record is for most pick-6's thrown in a single season? A friend and I were talking about it and couldn't find anything online about it. I'm wondering how close JG is.

I think the word of Freeze holding out for TN says that the job is perceived as better than it was three years ago. I think a more stable AD and a better roster probably has a lot to do with that.

I think a lot of it's ego and something to prove. He thinks he can do what others couldn't and land the Hindenburg, flipping off Sankey in the process. He can afford to wait for the job he wants-- high-profile and well-paying, with big staff and recruiting budgets and prime exposure.

Why in the hell would Candle be on anyone’s list?

Do you ever have anything encouraging to say? Lol

I used to, even at the beginning of the season I was excited and positive, but I just have decided to rip the band aide off and be honest instead of continuing to wear orange shades. You can look at our history over the past 12yrs, the difference in this staff from year one, year two, and now year three, and it is just too predictable. I am a UT grad and donor, but I'm not kidding myself anymore. It will take a momentous change over the offseason to fix this 'ish show, too many pieces to fix for it to be realistic enough.
Sure the QB situation has screwed us this year, but look at who is pulling the strings... JG may not be here next season, but everyone else most likely will be. I don't believe the difference in our season rests entirely on JG...

I was excited and saw a coach last year with fire and desire... this year I see a gump who is over it, stubborn, and just makes excuses. Clearly the guy doesn't want to be here, so how will that attitude turn a pathetic program with tons of talent, into a well oiled machine pumping on all cylinders by next year? I just don't see it. And apparently there's nothing we are going to do about it, hence the lack of encouragement from me. Maybe some day we will finally get the coach and get the program back to where it needs to be, but this guy is NOT the one.

Feldman on coaching candidates:

3. Hugh Freeze, Liberty
He wins games. He’s won everywhere he’s been and elevated each program, including now at Liberty where he’s taken over a mostly FCS-caliber roster and turned it into a Top 25 product. He’s a fantastic play-caller and has continued to evolve as a head coach. I’m convinced he could make South Carolina into a Top 25 team pretty quickly. I’m even more confident he’d do that at Tennessee (a job he grew up wanting) and Auburn in even less time. Neither of those jobs are open, and they might not come open until 2021 at the earliest, but we’ll see.

Who scares you most at Vandy?
According to ESPN:

"Among the candidates who might be targeted by Vanderbilt are former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher, Buffalo's Lance Leipold, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea (a former Vanderbilt fullback), Princeton's Bob Surace, Nevada's Jay Norvell, Indiana's Tom Allen, Tulane's Willie Fritz, Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, Louisiana Tech's Skip Holtz, Charlotte's Will Healy, Coastal Carolina's Jamey Chadwell, Army's Jeff Monken, Navy's Ken Niumatalolo and North Dakota State's Matt Entz."
Can't imagine why they didn't put Tennessee's Pruitt on their wish list :eek:
