Well the rules are tailored to the offensive side of the ball these days. You have to be able to score points in this era of College football. Your skill guys make or break you now.
I don't fault Fulmer for taking a gamble on Pruitt. People seem to forget how embarrassing and disastrous the coaching search was. From being turned down by tons of coaches to being a constant joke to the national media, I was just happy UT hired someone.
That last sentence was the last stand of Mike Shula. The rest is history. Every new hire is a new opportunity. It’s like buying a lottery ticket. Your odds aren’t any worse because the last three or four you bought were losers.Well, that's basically what I was getting at. We gave Johnny forever and we never would have had the success we had back then had it taken that long today. Pruitt may not be the guy, but Texas A&M isn't going to win the West till Saban is gone, and Jimbo will be long gone by then too. UF had way more talent than us and there was no doubt that Mullen would succeed quickly there. UGA fired Richt not because they didn't have talent, but because he wasn't taking it to the next level, so Smart walked into a better situation than even Saban did at Bama, but Bama is gonna be Bama. They really never were anywhere near as bad for as long as we've been. We can't afford it, it's a weird year, and who knows, maybe if we stick with someone for 9 years, things will turn around. They ain't turning around switching coaches every 3 to 5 years.
Fulmer was dealing with the remnants of what was arguably the greatest coaching search circus of all time. There were a lot of people who wouldn’t have touched this job at that time. The dysfunction in the UTAD was insane. How is Fulmer expected to fix that with having to make an emergency hire?Start with Fulmer and clean house or remain at the bottom.
Bravo sir, this is unadulterated genius, and a true recounting of the woes that have befallen this once mighty team. Trust in the Lion of Knoxville to make good on the promise of the program's potential.Fulmer was dealing with the remnants of what was arguably the greatest coaching search circus of all time. Fulmer has afforded Pruitt everything he needed to succeed. He was able to loose the purse strings, but Pruitt is just not bright. This was evident when he brought in an OC who was about to get fired and essentially did not hire a DC. The one great move was hiring the S&C coach. He’s gone and Pruitt promoted from within, which is what Jones did.
Pruitt then proceeded to run off some pretty good coaches. Rocker specifically. Pruitt’s antisocial behavior in the media isn’t limited to that. He doesn’t have the personality to be a CEO of a program. The only anti social coach to succeed is Saban and he’s a complete anomaly. That’s all Pruitt knows, since that is essentially who he’s worked for his whole career. But he lacks those other elements Saban has.
Just not true. They went after Gundy twice, with big offers. They offered Strong big money . Louisville matched it. Based on the ridiculous amounts we paid Jones and Pruitt, I don’t think $$ is the problem.I would like to know who turned us down that we made a real offer to. I mean a lucrative offer to. I think we low balled some coaches. I can't remember which one, but I think it was okl states coach, who we offered, and he decided to stay because he got a pay raise. We didn't counter, or I never read where we did. Any coach for the right money would take the job, the more proven the coach, of course the more it would take to get him.
Serious question. Whatever happened to all of the hype and popularity around David Blackburn as a potential AD? I realize he is no longer at UT Chattanooga and is now at Middle Tennessee. I just recall so much discussion about bringing him back to Knoxville as AD. Did something happen while he was at UTC?
It’s ironic as drunk preaching sobriety your bringing up Pruitt’s grammar and rambling. When we were trying to hire a guy for Jones, I really didnt want leach or Schiano because of the baggage of each. So when Fulmer A HOF coach with a NC Ring said that we needed a SEC guy who coached in the SEC I had no reason to believe he didn't know what he was talking about. After all , Smart at Ga. was doing well , they were winning SEC East crowns . Pruitt , who Fulmer said could recruit welland had an eye for talent in the rough, was the man to save us. I can tolerate his bad
grammar and rambling

like a 80 year old cause, by Gosh, we are gonna win again, be in the topten, make Ga & Bama respect us again ( take a bite outta their Azz) etc. etc. None of what Fulmer said has been true. The first 2 qbs he signs are nice kids who will never play in the SEC. So, now in year 3 we are retrogressing each week. Whether it happens this year or next, we will fire the incompetent Pruitt and begin our sad ritual once again. Paying a bunch of guys not to coach, making fools of ourselves with a tragic-comic search and hire another marginal coach > We will say the top-shelf guys wont come here when we really mean is we wont pay them well enough to come here. UT and Knoxville are better than most jobs out there. Pay them and they will come and get us out of this hellish cycle we"ve been in for 15 years. PLEASE- you are killing the football program with your ineptness.
There is absolutely no evidence that Schiano knew of the abuse at Penn State. McCleary testified that Bradley told him that Schiano had witnessed abuse but Bradley never verified that and Schiano totally denied it. That is the reason OSU had no problem with keeping him and Rutgers hired him. Urban Meyer still stands by Schiano. His reputation is not as tainted in the rest of the country as it is in Tennessee.Schiano apparently was aware boys were being abused at PSU, was fired for being a terrible human being and coach at Tampa and Rutgers is currently 1-3 in the pathetic Big Ten. I will pass on Schiano......
My question is who leaked the information for it to become a circus? And who benefited from that circus?Fulmer was dealing with the remnants of what was arguably the greatest coaching search circus of all time.
