he said pruitt is smart, and the coaches are good. the older players, for whatever reason, just don’t listen to him when it comes game time. he said guarantano is a genius, and he has everything it takes... in practice. he just loses everything when the lights come on. he doesn’t know why.
he said jennings was crazy, but he knew how to pull the team together. the team doesn’t have that anymore. but overall, he said he thinks pruitt can get it done when the bad apples are gone.

he’s working at amazon in spartanburg, SC where he grew up, also where i grew up. he’s a cool guy. y’all don’t have to believe me, but everything i said here is true.

I believe he “thinks” Pruitt can get it done.

However when you see coaches coaching (from the get go) “not to lose”........while losing anyway.

When you see coaches close their playbook, because their scared......while losing anyway.

When you see coaches and teams roll over and die.

When you see coaches refusing to change......while losing anyway.

When you see: lack of discipline, lack of development, refusal to change, lack of adjustments, and an O & D which everyone can predict.......

Logic must set in........it’s no longer “what you think”........it’s now “what you know.” Pruitt doesn’t have it......period.

How many coaches have won and gotten themselves off the hot seat? None

The real question nobody is asking here...

How’s the PS5?

Sam Pittman couldn't have walked into a better situation than Pruitt and he's united the team and has them playing their hearts out. It sounds like Pruitt is not real good at team building if this is still going on in Year 3. Obviously the youngest players are the most committed to him at this point, since they also have the least experience with him.

I certainly believe. However we should all probably listen to logic, what we see and what we know......over anyone’s opinion especially one which “could” be skewed.

look....I wanted Pruitt to thrive......because I love the Vols.

“If” JG is freakin Tom Brady in practice.....but by year 5 he is still JG in game......at some point the “practice” doesn’t matter......if your losing.

If there are bad apples. At some point (if your losing anyway) you simply have to put “your” young talent on the field......and get those who won’t do or can’t do off.

Pruitt is the head coach. He can decide who gets on (the field) and who comes off. He supposedly has a bunch of young talent.....which HE has decided not to play.

Seriously if your going to lose anyway.....why not lose with “good apples” on the field.

Why not lose with an open play book.

Why not lose with the motivated players.

Why not lose while “talking the chance” to win.

And if you screw up big time and you don’t kick a needed FG....why not own it......everyone will respect you more.

he said pruitt is smart (I think Pruitt is smart, especially defensively. Of course, being smart and being a good HC are two completely different things), and the coaches are good (I think we have some good coaches and some that have used their connections with Pruitt to probably be in over their head a little bit. If you micromanage your coaches, that means you are minimizng their impact). the older players, for whatever reason, just don’t listen to him when it comes game time (We've had this issue for 3 years players not buying in. Still appears to be a culture/chemistry problem. You can know football all you want but if you don't know people, its hard to succeed and get full buy-in. Pittman isn't having that problem at Arky).. he said guarantano is a genius (You can be smart and have a low football IQ), and he has everything it takes... in practice. he just loses everything when the lights come on. he doesn’t know why. (Neither do we)
he said jennings was crazy, but he knew how to pull the team together. the team doesn’t have that anymore. but overall, he said he thinks pruitt can get it done when the bad apples are gone. (Again, back to the culture/chemistry issue. Knowing football is important but knowing people is equally as important. There's numerous coaching issues that still exist well beyond bad apples.)

he’s working at amazon in spartanburg, SC where he grew up, also where i grew up. he’s a cool guy. y’all don’t have to believe me, but everything i said here is true. (I believe you and thanks for sharing)

My admitedly armchair analysis (in orange)

This.

If Pruitt is a great coach then there should be reasonable answers to all this.

If we could get a coach who was a clear upgrade with previous head coach experience (aka Hugh Freeze or someone of his ilk), id be all for it. However, a bit of a cautionary tale:

1987 11 2w 9l 0 .182 -2.12 6.16
1988 11 3w 8l 0 .273 -1.34 5.39
1989 11 6w 4l 1 .591 6.36 2.91
1990 11 6w 5l 0 .545 7.20 5.10
1991 11 5w 6l 0 .455 3.94 1.30
1992 11 2w 8l 1 .227 -1.93 1.70

So, this is the first 6 seasons for College Hall of Fame coach Frank Beamer. Do any of us really think Pruitt would get years 7 through 29 if he had that record his first 6 years at UT? Extremely doubtful. I know things are different these days, with the instant gratification and bloated salaries. I am impatient too (see above). I try really hard to exercise a bit more patience, but usually fail.

Saying and actually doing it two different things. I like facts and figures myself.

I believe you, because I can see it on the field. I also believe we'll get better when the 5th yr QB and the seniors are gone. Jennings was a visually, vocal leader that wanted to win. JJ bought into Pruitt, after he got his 2nd chance to play ball. JJ's gone, so there's no player holding the team responsible (I thought it would be Trey and I've been disappointed in his leadership this year.) Something changed at halftime of the GA game this year and the team's not been right since. CJP needs to be playing the younger players now, I don't know why he's not.

I'm not sure if Pruitt will get it done here but I'm hoping he does. I don't like some of his position coaches and think Weinke and Friend should be gone this year. I'm just sick of coaching searches every 4 - 5 years.

Beamer also inherited a team that had NCAA sanctions and was transitioning from independent status to playing in a major conference. By today's lens, it is hard to see how he survived his 1992 season.

There's always examples (such as Dabo) of coaches that turn it around while on the hot seat. Those are the exception and not the rule and usually there is some type of proof that shows that the coach knows what they are doing.

Dabo Swinney

Even with Dabo, he won a division title his first full year. In his second full year (the 6-7) season, they still went to a bowl. In his third full year, they won the ACC championship and the rest is history. Even in his first couple of seasons, they had wins over FSU and USCe, which mean a lot for that program.
