I love your passion guys and it's exciting to think about CHF, but let's get real. The athletic department is in a deep financial hole, and just re-up'd Pruitt's contract. It isn't happening unless Pruitt left us first (a. why would he leave 12 mill on the table, b. where would he go next for similar pay?). I just don't want to see you guys get crushed with disappointment.

Agreed, no way the department wants to pay another large buyout in Pruitt.

To play along for a bit, i think it would take some off the field issue by Pruitt to give TN leverage to negotiate a much smaller buy out to give it any possibility. Absent that - no way.

Question is - what is that "issue"?

Oh it’s happening. By “it” I mean a firm hit to the nads.

Are we doing a Gruden thing, or is there any chance at all with Freeze? I just read that the AM/Vols game might be cancelled. I think Auburn's game is cancelled--could they do a switch up, since neither of our teams have Covid?

There’s a chance if our job is open. Freeze would be genuinely interested, unlike Gruden.

Tifwiw but the same high level donor that told me Vq was covering for Pruitt about firing the DL coach during the game just said no way a change is going to be made. Said an AD staffer told him yesterday the money is just too tough now and those with the $ to change that don’t have the enthusiasm for the program as they once had.

Of course Hugh would be interested in the job, but no moves would be made this year. I don't see Pruitt firing Chaney and going after Freeze for OC.
I believe you’re connected and you don’t think Pruitt will be fired this year no matter what but if he goes 2-8 or even 3-7 I think what you’re hearing will change and it’s possible he’s gone. JMO

The hole is only going to get deeper the longer we keep him. The buyout is paid out over many years and is offfset by the next job he takes. I bet we lose way more in money by keeping him than hiring Freeze and paying a buyout.

Figures this is the most likely scenario. Did they say anything about new assistant coaches?

It's possible but IMO I don't see Fulmer making that move at the end of this year. Bad start next year would force his hand.

Why why why??? You killed the mood

Which is stupid cause Freeze will get picked up this year. This is Vols window to get back to relevance. They can't wait and just hire another project next year

Not saying your source is wrong, but I find it interesting that Deerpark has cited that it hasn't been an issue of money in previous searches but of candidates worth paying the money for. I can't help but think that if Fulmer needed to re-excite those with deep pockets to pay the buyout, the promise of an established SEC level HC would absolutely do that.

COVID influence aside, and I'm not downplaying it, but the money needed to be raised I feel could be done in the course of one afternoon if the end result was to have HF in power by end of the season - which is only a month away.

I can see that. Too many chefs in the kitchen and a young HC who isn't the easiest guy to get along with. The question is is who can he get after a 3rd year of turnover

Just another reason to make a HC move if you're going to. I know the perception is not great, but I don't think anyone in college football would hold it against the UT Admin if the end result is HF.
