two things I think:

Right head coach that is forward thinking, aggressive, innovative, energetic

A transcendent QB that can execute a great scheme

That's it. The rest would fall right into place.

Easy, right?

Exactly! Bring Hugh Freeze in and we start balling out. Everything will fall into place once we’ve got the right guy here. Problem is we’ve had an awful run of luck. Can’t quit swinging though. It’ll eventually go our way

what we are seeing, really, is a horrible mix of three problems on this team: A bad QB who has never been able to put up points and has the worst accuracy rate in the SEC, A career bottom tier OC (yes Chaney is bad look up @CFBMatrix on Twitter), and a roster composed of upper classmen from two of the worst recruiting classes in the last decade of Vols football. I want JP our because I think the analytics show that at this point he will never get it done, but I don’t think he is exactly the problem. I also think he doesn’t want to play HB bc of what happened to Maurer last year (I think those concussions f’d him up, see how he ran from the pocket on Saturday). Only path forward is to promote Chip Long (career top tier OC already on staff) and ride with HB. If he does that and keeps the recruiting class together he can still get it done - otherwise he needs to go.

I tend to think this is just what we are. And it makes me sad.

If players start bailing left and right then the AD/Booster hands will be forced. They will have to act.

Ya'll are setting yourselves up for a huge disappointment if you think Pruitt get's fired and we hire Freeze or another "Name" hire. It isn't happening. We're stuck with him at least through next season, unless he chooses to walk which I think is highly doubtful. The only way I could see him leaving if he is truly miserable and wanting out maybe a negotiated settlement. I don't think that will happen either but if it does don't expect a hire that you can really get excited about.

Guys, we need to go ahead and accept the fact that Pruitt will not be successful here. It sucks, I know. More than likely will not be let go this year, but that doesn't change things. Ga St., BYU, Throttled in every game against UGA, FL, and AL. Blowout loss to Kentucky at home. Losing by double digits to Arky. It's over. I just hate we are going to have to sit through an entire off season, as well as an additional football season before we can finally move on. We are certainly a 9-3 / 10-2 football program. We will never come close to that with this staff, at least on a consistent basis. I feel sorry for people that still have hope. I get it. I did too. Just cut it off and save yourself the misery. Find a hobby to do on the weekends. Invest in things that are truly important. Get healthy, raise money for a charity, etc. It'll be over soon.

I know it doesn't matter now but Pruitt deciding to not kick the FG really gets to me. It's like he wasn't even trying . We had the momentum, a field goal there and we are in the game with Bailey driving next possession.

Exactly. We have to start demanding more. People are trying to act like this is year one. We are in year three and look worse.

We can’t keep him if players leave. Mouth piece of AD is trying to force us to buy him out. It may work. If not, then we are stuck. This is such a mess and hard to know what is true but I hope we play A and M so we can get a handle on all of this.
