My post Arkansas randoms, if anyone cares. (I barely do)

  • It starts with the quarterback - and we don't have one. Watching JG play QB is like trying to watch porn on dial up. Buffering. Constant buffering. What confused me about the broadcast was how the commentators kept mentioning how receivers were open, but JG threw it too late. Said that even on the scramble he got hurt on - that he could've thrown it earlier but didn't and had to scramble.
  • I don't think we can ever truly judge this coaching staff until we get some semblance of a competent QB. JG isn't it. Brian Mauer showed why he doesn't belong on the field. The kid looks panicky, rushed, and inaccurate. This has been the worst case scenario for Bailey coming in. That said, I want him to be QB1 going forward. It just sucks I have to hope JG's injury (whatever it is - CJP just said he's day to day) is somewhat significant to keep him out.
  • Kina piggybacking off that - all year the coach has told us JG gives us the best chance to win. I finally see it. Neither of the back ups have shown an ounce of anything when given the chance. Which brings me to........ fire Weinke. Fire Chaney too. Please.
  • I didn't see where players were tweeting negative things post game. I know winning cures all. I don't know who the malcontents are but I definitely believe Savion Williams is transferring because he can't get on the field. I'd speculate Shamburger missed the game because he's one of the bad apples. Not sure about anyone else. I heard Dee Beckwith and Tyler Baron were bitching on twitter post game, but I don't know why they would. One has been injured all year and the other has gotten a fair amount of playing time.
  • Voltwitter is an embarrassment. Seriously. If you're one of the dipshits tweeting at players or recruits, dumping on the program or talking trash to the players themselves then please chug drano.
  • Flame me, but I still believe in Pruitt. I think he's been handed a terrible card - first time head coach, took over a dumpster fire, hired right before the first ESD, and COVID with ridiculous Knox County guidelines in year three. Plus being saddled with JG. We haven't been able to develop a back up which is a red flag - not sure thats direcetly on Pruitt. I do know he's tried to bring in multiple grad transfers (Minishew, Newman, etc) to no avail.

Most coaches in the SEC cut their teeth in the MAC or other lower level divisions. They learn how to be a head coach - handling everything and everyone and building a coaching tree along the way. Pruitt was just a high school head coach like what, 12 years ago? His ascension was fast. There are going to be growing pains, naturally. That said, I find the constant shuffling of assistants mind boggling.
  • Brian Neidermeyer doesn't need to be coaching line backers. I don't know where he needs to be, but it at where he is now.
  • I'm all for Osovet being the OC.
  • I feel so bad for Brandon Johnson. Listen, the guy isn't an all pro. Not going to play on Sundays. But he's a VFL who made a decision to help the team and opted to redshirt last year and come back this year when the staff asked him to. ONly to be saddled with JG. That touchdown pass was there to be had. JG threw a terrible ball. Brandon Johnson deserves better.
  • Bumphus being out the rest of the year hurts, but hopefully with him and Savion being gone, it forces the staff to play younger guys and develop them. But yeah, Bumphus and Brandon Johnson are the only seniors I'd really like to see come back next year.
  • This team is bad. I don't understand why. I mean, we just roll over in the second half, week after week after week. I can't explain it.

Thats all I got. I can think of other stuff but I'm bored thinking about this team right now. Gonna go fire up the Xbox 360 because apparently NCAA 2014 is the only place I'll ever get to see good Tennessee football again.
Dude. I’m with you on every word of this. I knew we were kindred spirits

What Hubbs said or wrote is being blown out of portion. Pruitt is not running around telling everybody that if he fails then he can go back to Bama. Hubbs is just reporting common knowledge. Many on VN have said the same thing about Pruitt. Hubbs even said Pruitt is not even thinking that now.
Fans are so frustrated with the program that every article and every Tweet is being dissected to the 10th degree. Pruitt wants to beat Bama. Pruitt wants to win at UT. Good night, no one wants to be fired and seen as a failure on their job.

Not wanting to be a failure and not caring are two different things. Nobody wants to, but I really believe Pruitt doesn’t care if he is. He has a backup plan and will be welcomed with open arms in T-town and he knows it. He has mailed it in this year. Everybody can see the fire isn’t there anymore.

Very odd. Makes me wonder if Pruitt is wanting out, similar to Butch in year 4 and Dooley in year 2. Maybe he’s willing to take less on the buyout because he has a job to go back to. If this happens to be true, then what AV saying makes a lot of sense about the program needs every single person going in the same direction to pull it out of the depths from where it was. Maybe Pruitt sees we don’t have that and won’t have it, so he’s ready to move on and is why he and the team have basically given up.

@Atlanta VOL, I know you can’t say but I wonder if those who aren’t pulling in the same direction are actually doing things to affect the program negatively, because they would prefer to have to be called on for their money, which would put them back into a position of power?
More and more schools have “woke” administrators who care nothing for sports. It will get worse. This is why so many schools are struggling to regain prominence. Miami’s down fall occurred under the woke presidency of Donna Shalala (2001-2015). Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee and others are suffering because politics are more important than athletics.

Bad look for us
Their is another one of these QB guru guys in the ATL area that has worked with Dobbs, Deshaun Watson etc. Name escapes me but Swain mentioned a few weeks back that he is telling HS Qb's not to come here.

No development and coaching staff has no idea what they are doing.

People also forget we have extremely different dynamics at UT than at most other SEC schools. Donor in fighting....administration not wanting athletics to drive conversations on decisions...Academics that would rather see our football team fail than succeed......AD that only has partial internal support...A head coach that really has not been given everything he has asked for....an AD that likes to control things way more than people know...I could go on and on.

But until everyone at UT is on the same page and wanting the same goals...it DOESNT MATTER WHO YOU BRING IN....you will still have these same issues. The big names are also fully aware of these dynamics at UT hence why we don’t have big name coaches knocking at our door to come here when the job opens up.
@Atlanta VOL , what can we as fans do. Write letters? Stop donations, attending games. What can we do? I can't not care about it. This wears on me, and I don't want it to anymore..... But I also know what means, if I allow myself to become apathetic I'm not sure I'll ever get it back.

IMO, it is more school administration than AD or boosters

I only really have issue with this. As far as ESD, Pruitt decided to stay behind and coach his Bama team in the NCG. Fulmer also bought off on this. Nobody forced him to be behind on ESD. On one hand I respect him finishing what he started, but on the other I see the way he is mailing this season in and it infuriates me. Makes me really believe he still does and always will care more about Bama. He doesn't seem to have an issue giving up here, but it never crossed his mind at Bama. He is from the sand mountain area, that is about as Crimson as it gets and the Tennessee hate is very, very real.

This was supposedly uttered in 2017.

You were not following me there.
yeah, i think the Hugh Freeze and Briles deals for OC were a real thing....and not to say we "wound up" with Chaney, but i don't believe he was the first/only choice and we just took that long to seal the deal. i don't know who else he wanted for s&c after fitz left, but i'd imagine there was at least some type of feelers put out....and i don't know what all went in to the hiring of Brumbaugh...but while it cannot be argued that he hasn't gotten resources, it could be argued that he hasn't gottne what/who he wanted for each of those resources. at least that's how i take it.

That's my impression too. But what can we as fans do beside just give up?
It is the wave of the future. Our colleges have been taken over with people who not only see no value in sports, they hate college athletics.
Yet, athletics is actually an avenue for educating those who normally would not receive a college education.

I think there are a few of us who need to see some progress before we are willing to continue supporting and I am ok with it. JP got a lot pulling in the same direction...but not all. And where the program was/is...we need ALL imo
Intresting. So there are some boosters who are out on him already? And if that's the case and certain boosters want to play games and no coach can get all the boosters gathered and pulling the same way it doesn't matter who the coach is.

Something’s gonna have to give though. Pruitt is obviously in over his head and this is turning out to be more than he can handle. It’s obvious that this is the oddest year in sports, basically ever. Either fans are going to have to really and truly speak with their wallets in order to demand change from the University or we are going to slide off the cliff and land right next to Vandy. Pruitt is NOT the guy. What’s worse... (1) firing him now with the $12.6 M buyout and going after Freeze (not Fickell, not Fleck, no Bill Martin, etc.) or (2) retaining him just bit longer (2-3 years), hoping for maybe an 8 win season sprinkled in, while the long-term success and revenue deteriorates far more than than an immediate firing? This whole AD is completely incompetent. Heck, I want Pruitt out now but there’s not an ounce of belief or trust in this administration to make a relevant hire to turn the tide on the last almost 15 years of Volunteer suckage even if he was ousted. They would find a way to screw it up and hire another Dick Trickle.

AJ Artis was Fitz’s recommendation as his replacement and I’ve never seen anything that indicated an alternative. I’d quibble with the delay in announcement...but nothing else.

He’s beat FL. He’s put his team in positions to beat UGA with zero offense. KY is a program changing QB away. We thought we were there to start the year. At this point I am far from convinced our only problem is QB play.
Can't disagree with that. But he is also in Y8. I thoroughly believe a JP defense would be just as good a couple years sooner than that.

My question is if either of those guys can ever let the offense just be. There's a real problem for Stoops if "don't have an elite QB" is still his issue. At some point you have to play a simplistic, QB-friendly offense, plug and play style like many of the best do these days. Clemson, osu, Briles, Yurcich, Lebby, these guys keep it simple. Defensive HCs seem to be incapable of letting the offense "go" like that for whatever reason.
