I think the loss of Rumph, Rocker and Sherrer took it‘s toll. They were all very good evaluators and developers of talent...but only one of them was really willing to beat down the path on the recruiting trail. 2 opted for the got it made in the shade lifestyle of the NFL and the other got to name his hours at USC so don’t blame them for not sticking around. Pruitt put some younger guys in those roles who would be willing to burn the midnight oil both on the recruiting side and in the office...but I think that was a bad move.
Very odd. Makes me wonder if Pruitt is wanting out, similar to Butch in year 4 and Dooley in year 2. Maybe he’s willing to take less on the buyout because he has a job to go back to. If this happens to be true, then what AV saying makes a lot of sense about the program needs every single person going in the same direction to pull it out of the depths from where it was. Maybe Pruitt sees we don’t have that and won’t have it, so he’s ready to move on and is why he and the team have basically given up.He never put it on the board til now...odd timing.
People also forget we have extremely different dynamics at UT than at most other SEC schools. Donor in fighting....administration not wanting athletics to drive conversations on decisions...Academics that would rather see our football team fail than succeed......AD that only has partial internal support...A head coach that really has not been given everything he has asked for....an AD that likes to control things way more than people know...I could go on and on.
But until everyone at UT is on the same page and wanting the same goals...it DOESNT MATTER WHO YOU BRING IN....you will still have these same issues. The big names are also fully aware of these dynamics at UT hence why we don’t have big name coaches knocking at our door to come here when the job opens up.
What Hubbs said or wrote is being blown out of portion. Pruitt is not running around telling everybody that if he fails then he can go back to Bama. Hubbs is just reporting common knowledge. Many on VN have said the same thing about Pruitt. Hubbs even said Pruitt is not even thinking that now.
Fans are so frustrated with the program that every article and every Tweet is being dissected to the 10th degree. Pruitt wants to beat Bama. Pruitt wants to win at UT. Good night, no one wants to be fired and seen as a failure on their job.
