Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

Obviously you don't understand the leverage Kara starts with by having hundreds of hours of TV time where she sits as an expert in the game.

Is it commensurate with the leverage Tennessee has with recruiting in-state kids? Sounds like myopic and parochial understanding of recruiting in the current environment...

*Maybe* What Kellie Harper is missing is a social media presence....coaches like Dawn Staley specifically are very crafty with social media shes always on it and has a big following because of it......Geno himself is now dabbaling in it as well.......just my opinion
Yeah, Paige is teaching him how to do it.

I remember once when you made sense.

That would still be once more than you flip-flop.

Let me use smaller words so you can understand:
Lawson's NBA coaching experience had no bearing on Bollin's commitment.
Lawson's publicity as an ESPN analyst had no bearing on Bollin's commitment.

So what you're suggesting is that there was no previous contact between Duke and Bollin that would have factored into the commitment and that it was Kara alone that got her to commit?

I have expressed that point of view. But in most posts I pointed out 2 exceptions to the rule Kara Lawson because of name recognition (and also the Duke cache) and Banghart because of the abundance of praise she got for her work at Princeton.

I think that's always been the point. Tennessee could have gone for a coach like Banghart who had more "street cred", but chose to stay in the family. The fact that Courtney, Vic, and Niele are recruiting well right off the bat and Kellie is needing time to build her reputation before she can get the attention of top recruits is what happens when you go for an unproven name vs. a big (or big-gish) name.

If Kellie can get Tennessee playing to their potential with the talent she has this year (and until Horston graduates), then I think the recruiting successes will come. But no one is gonna sign up to play for her based on her name from the get-go...unless they were already a Tennessee lean.

Important to remember that Lacey Goldwire is the recruiting coordinator. She has a proven history of brining in excellent, under the radar, recruits.

She played a huge part in the recent success Iowa has had. She brought in players like Kathleen Doyle and Megan Gustafson who went on to have stellar careers and play in the W. She aided Arkansas in attracting Dungee and Tolfree, two players who tore it up in their careers.

Have a feeling we will see some great things from Jordan Walker this season. Something tells me she is going to be the surprise of the year.

Banghart : 8 times in the NCAA and only once got past the first round
Kara Walters : has never head coached
Both could end up like Stephanie White.

Coach K : has taken 2 teams to the NCAA's and got to the S16 with a Missouri Valley Conference level team...I'll take a chance on Coach K over them every time.

I don't disagree with anything you say. Still to early to see who ends up being the better coach for their new teams. Just saying that the current recruitment picture happens when you hire a coach that has neither a.) big name coaching experience or b.) big name, period.

I do agree, but I have to back TN's chosen coach until she either proves me right, or proves me wrong.
until then, I am 100 behind Coach K and will stay there.

But know this, I will hold her to the expected standards

I have expressed that point of view. But in most posts I pointed out 2 exceptions to the rule Kara Lawson because of name recognition (and also the Duke cache) and Banghart because of the abundance of praise she got for her work at Princeton. But if you come from a mid-major more than half way through a recruiting cycle when 80% of the seniors are locked up, when 90% of the juniors have already cut their interest list to 5-10 teams and your peer coaches have been on the sophomores and freshman for 2 to 3 years, it is readily apparent that it is going to take some time to recruit in the top 10 players. This is readily evidenced by what KJH has been able to do at UT. Using Hoopgurlz as a quick representation. KJH's top recruit for 2020 is #57 KJH's top recruit in 2021 is #43 KJH's top recruit in 2022 is #33 (and with probably better to come.) The pattern has played out of steadily improving recruiting as KJH gets on an even footing with her peer coaches. I have said all along KJH was a great pick. You needed a quality coach who could also connect back to Pat. Kara also would have been a great pick. Your AD had to make a safer pick by choosing the one with head coaching experience. Selecting Kara would have brought a roar of approval from the semi-faithful. But if she were to flame out as the coach the LV legacy would be history. Instead I see a path forward. Even if KJH is not the one to bring regular final fours and national championships, she will have rescued Pat's legacy and restored LV's to a place of relevance. My feelings only.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It remains a concern we aren’t on any list for elites in 2022 and to have not even offered some is puzzling. Curious your opinion on this..... Since KJH had a rough go of it in recruiting at her last P5 job, who is her connected, go to recruiter she has hired to make her TN result different?
